1933 Riley Nine March Special - History over 60 years!
With the sporting credentials of the Riley Nine so well established, there was demand for specialised coachwork as well as the standard factory offerings and the ‘March Special’ was a most appealing model. The bodies were built by Kevill Davis and March and available on the 1932/3 Riley Plus Ultra chassis. Intended to sit between the outright competition models and the four seat Lynx tourer, the March Special was quite an exclusive sporting car, priced at £335. Approximately 53 of this model are believed to have been built, of which some 27 are identified by both chassis and registration numbers by the Riley Register.
A list of surviving March Specials is included in the documentation for this car and it would appear that only a very small number are currently in good, roadworthy condition.
This car has ownership history dating back to the mid 1950’s and was restored to a very good standard a while ago. It is of very good all round appearance in its maroon livery, with matching leather trim.
The wheels have been rebuilt and are shod with recently replaced Blockley tyres.
A replacement Merlin engine has been fitted as the engine previously fitted came to grief in a previous ownership.
During 2016, major mechanical work was carried out which included fitting new camshafts along with a replacement Silent Third type gearbox.
Over the past ten years or so considerable sums have been spent on the car, so it should prove a delight to its next owner.
More detailed photographs of the car and a video are available on our website.

This 2.5 Riley has undergone a program of work over recent years costing thousands of pounds. The car has had a new wood frame, re-veneered interior woodwork, re-upholstered leather seats, new headlining,.....
The Riley 9 was a middle class car which Riley launched in 1926 with the first model being the Riley 9 Monaco. We understand this Riley 9 to be carrying a ‘special’ bodywork with close similarities.....
Recently completed and now wonderful to drive. The Riley has a rebuilt Merlin 9 engine and ENV preselector gearbox. The brakes are actually quite good for a 9, stopping the car quickly with no fuss......
