The Mk1 MGB GT is the most desirable of the model range, and prices are rising rapidly! These cars are a fantastic investment, with prices rising all of the time. This car is no exception, and I feel you’ll struggle to find a better one in this price range. It’s had a great deal of work during its life, which I will detail throughout the ad. The car comes with 12 months MOT, but of course, with the new DVLA rules, it is MOT exempt anyway.

The previous owner has restored the car in recent years, and before him, it was in the hands of the previous owner for 27 years. Work in recent years is very comprehensive and includes:

·  Full bodywork and structural restoration before being painted in Mineral Blue
·  New chromework all round, including bumpers and grille
·  All new interior, including new carpets, headlining, dashboard refurbishment, seat covers, speaker console and much more.
·  Engine fitted with unleaded cylinder head, new dynamo, thermostat and other ancillaries
·  New carburettors which have been balanced, and ignition timing reset
·  Original disc wheels refurbished and fitted with new tyres and chrome hubcaps (inc. spare)
·  Suspension and brake refresh, with new rear springs, rear brake cylinders, front springs and more
·  New coolant hoses all round
·  …and much, much more!

Despite the above work, the car really does retain its sense of originality – it has not been over-restored. It still retains the correct 3-synchro gearbox (complete with narrow gearbox tunnel), aluminium bonnet, banjo steering wheel, early radiator and lack of reversing lights. The car still retains its overdrive vacuum switch, too – increasingly rare these days.

The car starts, runs and drives very nicely indeed. The carbs have been replaced with new units in recent years, and are the correct early type without the breathers. These have just been rebuilt and rebalanced and the car ticks over smoothly, and pulls strongly. There are no overheating issues and oil pressure is just where it should be. A Kenlowe fan is also fitted to aid cooling in very hot temperatures. The overdrive is fully functional and makes cruising a pleasure.

Structurally, the car appears to be nice and solid. The sills, castle rails, chassis legs, inner wing trumpet sections and spring hangers all appear to be fine, having had structural restoration. It wouldn’t have got through an MOT, otherwise! You’re more than welcome to come and have a good prod around. The car was painted in relatively recent times, and the finish is very good indeed (but please don’t expect a concourse car!). The wing-top seams are all in excellent condition. Like I’ve said, it’s not a concourse car but it’s not the usual tarted-up junk either.

The brakes grab nicely and the car pulls up in a straight line, and the car rides very nicely (for an MGB!). It’s actually very quiet in the cockpit with no nasty rattles or a stupidly loud exhaust – it really is a pleasure to travel in!

The interior is very clean and tidy, also - as mentioned, most of it has been replaced or reconditioned. The headlining is excellent, as are the carpets, seats, door cards and dashboard. There’s very little work to be done here.

This is an excellent price for a fantastic car which attracts a great deal of attention wherever it goes. Obviously it’s not a concourse show car but it’s generally very good indeed, but is ready to use and enjoy. You’ll be able to see that for yourself when you come to view.
