Extremely rare opportunity to own a beautiful Triumph Stag that has been dry stored for most of its life.
Last on the road in 1992 this car has been FULLY rebuilt (details below) and put back on the road. Even before 1992 it had been dry stored for most of the time. It has covered only 30k miles from new.
The following text is from a typed index card that came with the car when I purchased it in 2012:
Triumph Stag Sports 2997cc First reg 1st Sept 1971, Yellow
Car was bought from original owner in 1976 and used on a daily basis for
school rubs etc till 1979.
Car was then stored for several years and then engine was overhauled
when head reground (new pistons etc).
At the same tine new front wings and valances were fitted, the body
stripped and the vehicle was resprayed.
The vehicle was then stored in a dry garage and was only brought out for
the wedding of the owner's son in 1991.
Since that time the vehicle has been stored in the same dry garage, the bodywork is excellent ....
When I bought it the engine was seized (as many unused Stag's are due to ingress of the coolant into the bores ...). I stripped the engine and then decided to replace it with a very low mileage engine that I bought and completely rebuilt. It has had fully refurbished heads (the best examples the machine shop had seen in a long time), all new bearings, timing gear, seals etc. etc. The bores showed absolutely no wear at all and were lightly honed with new rings.
The rest of the car has undergone a nut and bolt rebuild with all new brakes, clutch components, fully rebuilt diff, all suspensions joints and bushes replaced.
Underneath it's like a brand new car with everything new or rebuilt completely.
The fuel tank has been professionally restored and is now as new.
The radiator has been rebuilt with a new core.
The interior is remarkably original with original panels and seats.
The Hard Top is in great condition and means this car can be used year round.
There is no rust on the vehicle bodywork or underside. Any inspection welcomed. I have several photos of the underside that I can share with serious bidders.
A couple of concessions to reliability have been made with the fitting of Lumenition electronic ignition, and a Stagweber replacement blade style fuse box. Other than that it's pretty much original.
Comes with a new MOT with no advisories, even though it doesn't actually need one ...
