This is a 1955 shed find Francis Barnett Cruiser 75 fitted with the reliable Villiers 1H 225cc engine. The DVLA records show the bikes last road tax running out in August 1979 so some 39 years ago.
The bike was reregistered in September 1977 under a replacement number and has a Modern V5c stating the date of registration as September 1977 but the date of manufacture as 1955. The bike qualifies for tax and MOT exemption and is at present on SORN.
The bike came to me as a none runner from the owner, a friend of mine who bought three shed find bikes from the same family. All three bikes had been partially stripped mainly the wiring. I sourced a replacement Villiers light switch and a new loom and the bike has been converted to coil ignition with the addition of an ignition key for security, once rewired the bike started up and all the lights now work. My friend has now asked if I could sell the bike as a running restoration or oily rag, ride as is.
Some electrical items have been replaced, brake light switch, Horn, Loom, etc, bit what still needs doing is a replacement front tyre, speedo cable, and a general tuning. The exhaust was very noisy so exhaust blanket has been put into the silencer which has improved it no end, the centre stand I don't think is original as it should have the fragile double lift version which is often replaced.
The bike would be a great ride as is oily rag winter bike as it has not been messed about with, keep your restored bike for the summer. the 1H Villiers engine is a tried a trusted engine and has been used in many classic British two stroke machines, spares are easily obtainable from Villiers services.
