1972 BMW R75/5 rare US export 'toaster' - low mileage For Sale
Reluctantly move forcing sale. A great project and with some TLC for an enthusiast/collector who would like to own possibly one of the world's first great sport touring motorbikes. Magical in the city but also amazing to ride on interstate journeys through Europe or USA.
These sensational bikes built in Spandau, Berlin in the 1970's were a game changer. Hans-Gunther von der Marwitz was the driving force behind the “new” /5 motorcycles; 745 cc,50 hp,slim line 4.6 gallon tank, 110 top speed. The 'toaster' side panelled versions were a big hit in the USA export market with a cult following. Personally, this bike drove like a dream and didn't miss a beat for all the trips and time in my possession.
Owned myself from 1992 but been garaged since 2000. Speedo stopped at 23,908 miles in 1995 but hardly 100 miles added in 20 years.
Important to emphasise prospective buyers it will require new battery, full service; brakes service, carb cleaning etc. However, when I purchased it from restorer/trader in London it was rust free and dealer imported it from Florida. Seatrequires renewing or repair, Mirrors could also be replaced as well as a new key (on headlight)needed but all easily available online. Has some blemeshes on wheel frame and engine. Chrome work can be cleaned up more. When restored to 'excellent' condition should be valued at over £7,000 to a European based enthusiast/collector.
Looking forward to hearing from any interest from any corner of the globe.
