1982 Rover 3500SE - Series 1 - Factory manual 5spd For Sale
Here for sale is my 1982 Rover 3500SE with a factory fitted 5-speed manual gearbox. This is a Series 1 model with the more 70's dashboard. Originally used as the company car of the BL northern regional manager, it is one of the few remaining white SD1's that isn't an ex-police car.
I am selling due to a new member of the family
being on the way.
Currently on 111722 miles, although please be aware mileage will continue to increase as I am a firm believer in keeping an old car running by actually running it, so it's driven most weekends.
The engine is the 3.5 litre V8, still running the pair of SU HIF6's as fitted in the factory. It has a rather substantial file of history to accompany it, although I have serviced it myself, so there are no receipts for that. The engine has been incredibly reliable, only requiring a new fuel pump 2 years ago and a new battery last year as well as in-line fuel filter, plugs, HT leads, distributor rotor arm and cap, and fresh oil and filter when I have serviced it.
The engine starts easily, runs fine off choke, still delivers plenty of low down torque and revs freely throughout the entire rev range. The power steering works flawlessly, brake servo works fine, and all of the electrics are in perfect working order; no rogue earth's or lights not working. The car has been updated to the 4 piston calipers from Rimmer Bros. The car also has the Rimmer Bros stainless exhaust fitted from intermediate section back; still has original mild steel manifolds. The youth in me discovered cars registered prior to 1983 don't legally require a set number of silencers, so the car currently only has a backbox.
There are a couple of outstanding items still needing to be done, namely front track rod ends and bearings, which will be supplied with the car. As part of my quest to find the cause of a grumble I have had the tracking checked and also replaced the brake pads and fitted updated Rossini drilled and grooved discs from Rimmer Bros. The carburettors will need the mixture adjusting slightly as they haven't been adjusted in the 2 years I have owned the car and have drifted out of balance a bit, as carburettors do. Unfortunately, with preparing for a baby, I haven't had the time these days to do these couple of things.
The car is in generally good condition for its age, with a couple of spots of surface rust around the drivers wheel arch and on the rear quarter panel. I haven't spent much time under the car, but both MOT's it's had under my stewardship I have had comments on how good the underside looks.
Headlining has been done a couple of years before I bought the car and doesn't exhibit any sags or holes. The manually operated sunroof works without any snags and is still watertight. The car has the smaller US market steering wheel fitted, although the original will be supplied along with a few boxes of original parts, like the original air cleaner assembly, original radio/cassette player, and original set of vitesse alloy wheels.
Car has been priced to match cars currently for sale here, as well as the fact it is one of the few remaining working Series 1 cars. The car can be driven away.
