This is one of only a hand-full of known early examples in the world. The car has undergone a sympathetic restoration with the utmost care taken to preserve as much patina and as many of the original materials as realistically possible. The interior has been sympathetically restored to the original condition and colour combination along with the exterior paintwork being finished in the cars original colour. This car is a work of art; it not only looks fantastic but is a lovely car to drive.
The DS 19 (Goddess) was the first DS proposed by CitroŽn for the 1956 model year. It appeared at the Paris Motor Show in October 1955. This version introduced an iconic innovative shape combining advanced technology, particularly in the various hydraulic assists incorporated into the vehicle (adjustable suspension, steering, power brakes and hydraulic transmission).
At this stage, the DS was not yet in its final configuration and some elements would be modified for series production that would take place three months later: triangular rubber protection were added for the wheels and the chrome tail lights were removed. The early cars including this example have some lovely features including an interesting dash configuration, flame shaped reflectors and fishtail central exhaust.
The CitroŽn DS 19 is a front wheel drive vehicle. This early model has a four cylinder 1900cc engine with a rare hydraulic 4 speed gearbox. The now iconic body was designed by Flaminio Bertoni.
DS19, The goddess design started before WWII and it was first presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1955. This took the motoring world by storm, 80,000 orders were taken in the first week. The DS was awarded the best car of the 20th century after the Model T and the Mini.
