1984 Ford Sierra XR4i, low owners & miles For Sale
By far the best value XR4i on the market, but STILL nobody comes to see it! Hurry before I put the price up, I'm beginning to think people are not viewing because it looks too cheap... Exceptional, original XR4i in the most desirable Caspian Blue, with the good extras - power steering, sunroof, heated rear window - but not the unreliable electric windows! Bought new from Don Everall, the Ford main agent for Wolverhampton, after it had been his demonstrator, the car remained in one owner's hands and bearing a personalised reg plate until 2002 - at which point it regained its original registration. I spoke to the owner's wife, who confirmed that it had been her car, always garaged and used mostly for special trips - and that the original 'computer font' registration plates, so redolent of the 1980s and never seen nowadays, had been kept on a shelf in the garage and re-affixed when the car was sold in 2002. She told me she had cried when it was sold - she loved the car! It then passed quickly through the hands of three enthusiast owners before I purchased the car - from an enthusiast who was also keeping it garaged - in 2005. I have owned it - cherished and garaged - ever since. Despite its sheltered life, like all 1980s Fords rust had taken a hold when I purchased the car, all hidden behind those plastic trims. In 2006-9 I spent far more than the car was worth having those trims removed and new metal welded in, to a very high standard, by a professional classic car restorer who also resprayed only the panels that had been affected - even 12 years later, it's impossible to see the difference and it means that most of the car still carries its original paint. The work was documented at the time in the Our Cars column of Classic Cars magazine. The interior is also completely original and the car comes with spare seats including a very rare original heated driver's seat and spare rear seat panels. Original mileage has now reached 108,000 and the car still drives absolutely magnificently and sounds phenomenal thanks to the only modification, a Janspeed silencer - which I had intended to put back to standard, but the sound is addictive! This really is a lovely car which the first person to see will buy - you just don't find them this original. Lower mileage examples in no better condition have sold at auction for between £8000 and £12,000 in the last couple of years, and a fully restored car is up for £25k. After owning and enjoying this car since 2005, I've moved house and am short of storage so sadly, need to part with it, so I've priced it at what I think is very good value in the current market. It's not perfect, it's largely original and has a few blemishes as a result, but it could be made perfect with minimal expenditure. The 4i has covered c200 miles since MoT (Oct 4) and is ready to be enjoyed. NOTE: location now Somerset. Grab it while you can!
