1989 BMW E30 Touring 4.4 V8 Supercharged Sleeper For Sale
Featured in Performance BMW magazine, August 2018 and now on youTube LivingLifeFast channel (search for 500bhp E30 SLEEPER).
This is my 1989 E30 Touring, which was originally a 318i auto. I bought it in August 2010, with almost 85,000 miles on the clock and spent the next 5 years getting it converted to run the M62B44 and six speed gearbox from a 1997 E39 with the ESS Vortec 7 psi kit.
The engine has been fully rebuilt and is now a lined block, with CP pistons, MLS head gaskets, new bearings, oil pump, timing chain etc. The rebuilt engine has only done 6,000 miles to date and can achieve 30mpg on a run.
Running an Emerald K6 ECU, the engine makes just shy of 490bhp/ 360kW at 6400rpm and 423lb ft/ 573Nm at 5050rpm. This is on a safe map and more power can be gained with a higher rev limit, bigger injectors and a smaller pulley, if desired!
The interior is complete, with E28 M535i front seats (and standard rear bench) retrimmed in alcantara and a black headlining. The six speed gearknob is about the only clue to the conversion on the inside, with nothing much to give the game away on the outside. Standard BBS 15" wheels sporting 225/50 and 205/50 tyres and a repainted Alpine White II body keep the look clean and 'factory'. Front electric windows, electric sunroof, mirrors, central locking and retro-fitted E30 cruise control are all functioning.
A lot of work has gone into the conversion, including the bespoke brake set-up, using a Renault/ VW combination for the relocated master cylinder and servo. This gives an excellent pedal feel and is a major improvement on the standard set-up, especially when matched to the WMS 300mm front brake kit and Ferodo DS2500 pads all round.
A custom rear strut brace triangulates the suspension top mounts to the differential mounting, the diff itself is a 210mm 3.07 LSD, with custom Davemac driveshafts. Polybushed all round, with H&R adjustable ARBs, GAZ adjustable dampers, height adjustable springs and an E36 rack completing the chassis upgrades.
Custom tubular manifolds have been Zircotec ceramic coated and are joined to a custom 2.5" stainless exhaust system fabricated by Myriad Exhausts in Walsall.
I haven't done a build thread on any forums, but anyone coming to view can see all the photos from the build, along with all the invoices for parts and labour. Choosing to supercharge the V8 effectively doubled the conversion cost, in regards both labour and parts.
I look forward to showing the car to any interested parties - I am genuinely looking to sell and will entertain offers, so please get in touch! Regards, Michael
