1954 Austin Healey 100M BN1 For Sale
The accompanying history file has every MOT’s from 1980 which declare the millage running from 16601. At that point the car was in Lancashire with Mr C J Carter. In 1999 OWD726 changed hands to only her 3rd keeper, according to DVLA V5Cs, moving to Tamworth, the last MOT before that sale states millage as 24745. This new owner was Tony Stafford (of Stafford Vehicle components ‘SVC’) Tony kept the car until April 2013 his last MOT on the 10th October 2012 showing a millage of 27728.
When Tony Stafford placed OWD726 on the open market, Tom Regis was a long way through his arduous hunt to find a car to the right 100/ 4 specification, with a period fitted Le Mans kit, to tackle the legendary Mille Miglia. Once Tom had secured the car he waited no time in having it brought up to his required high standards. The history file contains invoices totalling in excess of £57, 000. The work involved OWD726 being taken back to bare metal, having all rot repaired and then fully primed and repainted. This preparation also included mechanical work along with the installation of a later and highly desirable BN2 gearbox and overdrive (rebuild before fitting), along with hardened valve seats and other mechanical work/ brakes electrics etc.. all in prepared for the rigours of the Italian road classic. Once ready for the road the next task was to sort the paper work side of things. OWD726 was duly inspected and granted its essential FIVA identification and compliance papers. Sadly however Tom didn’t pursue his dream and so this wonderful “Healey 100” changed hands, to her 5th keeper, my client, who took over ownership in late 2015.
For my client OWD276 tick all the right boxes: resent significant spend on cosmetics and mechanics; the essential FIVA identification and compliance papers and a great looking “Healey 100”. Again this new owner had his eyes set on the famous Itailan road race…. Once the sale was finalised the car was sent straight to renowned Classic Car Restorer Ian Kellett near Huddersfield. The car was swiftly given a clean bill of health, then was immediate display in Ian’s “Oil Can Café” in readiness for the following years Mille Miglia. My client had taken part as part of the Jaguar Heritage contingent, for the 2014 and 2015 MM and he wanted to try his hand as a private entrant. Other activities took precedence in 2016, but in 2017, just as the entry details were being finalised, so successful was he with Jaguar Heritage Racing that a privateer secured his services for the 2017 event. Having had the opportunity to realise his dream over three years (and not only realise it, but to have others pay for the privilege) the owner of ODW726 thinks its only right that he takes the “paid driver” opportunities being offered him and allow somebody else have the chance to stretched the legs of OWD726 in the style she has been prepared for… OWD is now ready for immediate use having just been through Ian Kellett’s workshop for a £1445:28 pre-sale service.
The vendor writes:
This wonderful sounding and even better driving Austin-Healey was driven over to the Hardman premises and the owner emerged with a huge grin on his face. It truly does drive exactly as one of these cars ought. The performance is most impressive and road holding and brakes are more than a match for the torque of the four cylinder engine. This car has impressed everyone who has come into contact with it from experienced marque experts (letter in the fulsome history file) through to casual observers of the car passing in the street.
The car is ready to be driven away following work to tune the engine; a full service to the breaking system - including replacing all wheel cylinders and the brake master cylinder; all shock absorber and suspension mounting bolts were checked and re-torqued during a complete spanner check at the end of the service.
