For sale an original 1976 P mk2 Austin Allegro Vanden Plas 1500, finished in Astral Blue Metallic with Chamois leather trim, 56000 miles, no modifications or alterations, just as it left the factory yes it could be the most expensive VP 1500 currently for sale at around £7800, but in carrying out this restoration: if we had included all the labour costs the restoration would have exceeded £10k Why please read on!
The VP is a 2 privately owned car, the first purchased from Leslies Garage, Ventnor, Isle of Wight in 1976, original sales invoice with car, when he was too old to drive passed it on to his neighbour, letter from this gentleman to confirm, there is a third keeper on the V5, intending like me to restore but he thought the challenge to great.
On purchase the decision was made if the car were to be returned to use then only a full restoration would suffice and this is what we did.
The VP was completely stripped, interior removed, front and rear screens removed, all rusted sections were cut out, floor panels fabricated, new front wings, front panel, front valance, sills, wheel arch sections were sourced, old removed and new fitted. Once all fabrication and panels replaced, complete body shell stripped and re painted in the factory original colour “Astral Blue Metallic”. Once back in workshop all interior trim and headlining replaced with near to original matching colour material. Seats before refitting refurbished to as new original texture and colour. New carpets were made to match in both colour, texture and edged as per originals. All brightwork refreshed. Many new parts.
Mechanically, engine serviced, callipers dismantled refitted with new pads, new rear wheel cylinders and much more.
The VP failed quite dramatically its MOT and that is why the second owner decided to sell, please go to the http://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk and type MDL 426P identified by DVLA as a “rover allegro” !!, every repair carried out, all the failure and advisory items.
Trust this explains the selling price, since completing the restoration have taken the VP to a couple of car shows, the VP was accepted for the pre 76 “Goodwood” Breakfast club display and received much acclaim.
The VP is stored inside under a cover in its own space and is just not being used, hence the advert, needs to be driven and cherished by someone that wants to own a piece of British motor industry history, ready to enjoy without having to incur restoration costs for a long time to come.
With the VP is a complete photographic record of the restoration, workshop manual, brochures, owner’s handbook and spare key’s.
Please do not contact me with offers the car is advertised at a classified price and we do not have an immediate need of a sale, reasons for adverts are explained.
Only genuinely interested purchasers respond: tyre kickers or time wasters will not be entertained.
