An Austin 7 Chummy is a car which needs no auction-style introduction.
Car number A2-1022
Chassis number 11022
Engine number 11076
Body number 10867
OM8095 was supplied by Birmingham dealer George Heath ltd on the 7th July 1925. This particular example has often been referred to as the reference Pram Hood Chummy!
In 1934 OM8095 was placed into long-term dry storage, before being resurrected in 1978. Undoubtedly this period of layup has meant that man original features like the Coventry upholstery and hood bag still survive, and in very useable condition.
In 1978 OM8095 was obtained by a new custodian and dispatched to Tony White, well known Austin 7 Specialist, for restoration. New hood and side screens to correct pattern were produced, along with fresh paint and renewed bright work and interior side and door panels. OM8095 went on to win numerous concours awards throughout the 1980ís and into the 90ís.
In 2009 OM8095 was placed into the trusted hands of Paul Rogers Engineering. Conversation with Paul confirms that the engine had never previously been restored! So the original crank was upgraded to a splash fed Phoenix crank, new Honda pistons and replacement rods were fitted. All these items been dynamically balanced along with renewed white metal. Paul also replaced the valves and springs. Looking back at old MOTís I conclude that 1200 miles have been covered since completion of Pauls work.
The OM8095 has competed with the VSCC Light Car Section and also participated in Chummy Ladies events, which is where most of the miles would have been completed; there is also a full compliment of Austin 7 tools, along with a new 6-volt battery just fitted.
I conclude that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for an Austin 7 connoisseur/ collector/ enthusiast to acquire OM8095 - the reference Pram Hood Chummy. May I suggest that the under-bidder of a Pram Hood recently sold at auction for £37,950 should make swift contact?
