This is my 1933 BSA Peerless Coupe that I have owned for over 22 years. It is a barn find as I have always kept it undercover in my barn! I purchased it back in January 1997 and shortly after sent it to a professional restorer who started work then went bust! I did eventually get it back, but in the process the engine and gearbox were lost, and since it came back it has sat in the barn awaiting its turn, but after over 20 years, I have to be realistic and accept it is not going to happen, so I am listing it here for sale. The Peerless Coupe is extremely rare, my research 20 years ago suggested that only 3 were built, but I am not certain, certainly I have never seen another. It is a very pretty little car.
When the car was at the restorers he started work, dismantled and prepared/primed the body and had the chrome redone. I also had the chassis blasted and painted ready for the rebuild. When I got it back it was without the engine/gearbox, front head and sidelights and one seat squab. As far as I can tell, everything else is there, but please come and have a look and satisfy yourself.
I had planned on either obtaining a replacement engine and preselect gearbox as these were fitted to BSA rear wheel drive saloons as well as the Lanchester 10 of the same period, but then thought it was an 100cc engine and heavy gearbox, so decided to fit a conventional engine and gearbox out of a Morris 1000, Riley 1500, Triumph Spitfire or similar, as this would look correct, improve performance and generally make it a nicer car to drive. If it does not sell, I will still probably go this route, but it has been over 20 years already and it is likely to be as long again before I do it, if I am lucky and live that long!
I have spent many thousands on this car, the chrome cost £1200 alone and that was 20 years ago, but I really could do with the space and one less project so grab yourself a bargain. You will need a van and a car transporter trailer to collect, and I am in the North East of Scotland, approximately 25 miles south of Aberdeen. I am happy to deliver anywhere in Europe, please ask for an idea of price, but it must be paid for before I leave. You are encouraged to view, and will answer any questions honestly. I have loads of photographs which I an send if required. However, this time of listing I will not end the advert unless I have a deposit, the last time I advertised it someone definitely wanted it and I foolishly trusted them, and several months later I still have it. If you want to talk about the car to find more info on it, please call me on 01561 320776 or email me on [email protected]. Thank you for your time.
