Every Ferrari is, to a greater or lesser extent, a landmark car, but few of Maranello's road models have captured the imagination like the 365 GTB/4. The ultimate expression of Ferrari's fabulous line of V12 front-engined sports cars, the 365 GTB/4 debuted at the Paris Salon in 1968, soon gaining the unofficial name 'Daytona' in honour of the sweeping 1, 2, 3 finish by the Ferrari 330P4 at that circuit in 1967. Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti, later the famed Carrozzeria director of research and development, was responsible for the influential shark-nosed styling, creating a package that restated the traditional long bonnet, small cabin, short tail look in a manner suggesting muscular horsepower while retaining all the elegance associated with the Italian coachbuilder's work for Maranello.
At the time of its introduction in 1968 the Daytona was the most expensive production Ferrari ever, and with a top speed in excess of 170mph, it was also the world's fastest production car. Deliveries commenced in the second half of 1969 and the Daytona would be manufactured for just four years; not until the arrival of the 456 GT in 1992 would Ferrari build anything like it again. Only 158 RHD Berlinetta models and 7 RHD Spyder convertibles had been made when production ceased in 1973.
DD Classics is proud to offer this stunning Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, a genuine RHD UK supplied car finished in it's original colour scheme of Rosso Chiaro with Nero hide, it is probably one of the best available. It comes complete with one of the largest history file's we have seen, including an original Ferrari book pack as well as a Ferrari tool roll. Within the history file is the original purchase invoice, previous MOT certificates and numerous invoices of works carried out, it is clear the car has been fastidiously maintained over the course of its life.
Supplied new by Marranello Concessionaires to Norman Buckley, prolific British & European hydroplane champion throughout the 1950's and 60's. When Norman began to lose his eyesight he 'gave' the car to his close friend Alan Langtree who in turn sold it to a Mr. M Lake from Barrow in Furness, Mr. Lake used the car on various continental trips, completing the Cannonball run in 1990 and again in 1991 with actor James Coburn. It's next owner treated the car to a full bare metal respray, the bumpers, wheel centres and side lamps etc, were re-chromed and the interior was refreshed. In 2016?the engine benefitted from a deep service and reconditioning by Ferranti engineering.
This is simply one of the most attractive Daytonas we have had the privilege of owning. If you are thinking of a V12 front engined Ferrari Daytona to add to your collection, you must see this car in the flesh, nothing else will then suffice.
