The Daimler Two Door Coupe / Jaguar XJC is the lowest production volume post war Jaguar model. It was also the final car with input from Sir William Lyons. Over the past few years the desirability of the model has increased rapidly and while people often say the 4.2 is the better engine because it’s more economical (about 4mpg) the 5.3 litre V12 is smooth and torquey and an experience that should be on everyone’s engine bucket list. The V12 is also considerably rarer. 8203 cars were made with the 4.2 but just 2272 with V12. Of the V12s just 372 were top of the range right hand drive Daimlers.
This is a late Daimler Double Six Coupe built c.October 1977 with just 25 further cars being built before production ceased on 8th November. This means it has the GM THM400 gearbox which was an improvement over the Borg Warner of the earlier cars. It has been brought back to the UK from the Isle of Man where the car was first registered in 1995. Prior to that it was a UK car with reg CGE 672S (Glasgow). The car was originally Squadron Blue but its owner on the isle of man preferred dark blue, the car looks to have been stripped all over for the paint except for the engine bay which is still squadron blue. The rear of both sills have suffered from the car having been stood outside for almost six years as with most coupes and the wheels are probably beyond economical restoration but readily available. The underside appears to be good with the underseal intact and taking the carpets out looks solid from above too but have not had the car on a ramp yet. The highlight is the interior which would need little attention. A few pieces of trim absent but the coupe specific parts that are hard to find are all intact. The engine number on the block matches the chassis plate and the odometer is showing 63000 miles. If you’d like to know any more give me a call.
