this car is being sold as an on going restoration
it has been off the road for the last 15 years !
it is now mot and tax exempt being a 44 year old camper !!!
it is a 5 previous owner car
1st owner kept it 10/05/74 until 24/08/1998 ( 14 years 3 months )
2nd owner kept it from 24/08/1998 until 01/04/2000 ( 1 year 4 months)
3rd owner kept it from 01/04/2000 until 19/07/2000 ( 3 months)
4th owner kept it from 19/07/2000 until 20/05/2001 ( 10 months )
5th owner kept it from 20/05/2001 until 15/08/2011 ( 10 years 3 months)
i purchased the camper on the 16 the august 2011 and have ownded it since
it has covered a genuine 134000 miles !
when i purchased it in 2011 i was advised that it had just been fitted with a fully reconditioned engine together with a brand new carburettor at a cost of over £2500
it was mechanically excellent and ran perfectly , starting on the button and drove really well when i collected it
the camper totally original when i purchased it and at the time of purchased i had intended to carry out a full and total restoration and end up with a perfect t2 devon camper to keep indefinitely
i have owned this van for 7 years and am selling it reluctantly due to moving overseas in the near future and i have run out of time to complete the restoration and i cant realistically take it with me as it is !
this really is a reluctant sale as i don,t want to sell it i wanted vw t2 camper from being a young boy and was over the moon when i finally tracked down and purchased this one !!
it was mechanically superb but was suffering the usual t2 corrosion issues !
like all t2 campers it was hiding a lot more corrosion than 1st appeared apparent
it has been dry stored and off the road for 15 years !
44 years old !!
4 speed manual gearbox working and changing gears as it should prior to starting the restoration
the van was totally complete when it was stripped down and everything is still there
the restoration started in 2012 when it was passed to a local chap called robert selway who is a perfectionist when it comes to restoration/ welding work
he completely stripped the van down and put it onto a rotating spit and the hard part of the project (the floor and outriggers) were started
the left hand side of the floor was removed and a "just campers floor" fitted
all the out riggers on the left
hand side where replaced and renewd
the left hand door channel was also re fabricated ( see pic)
(a new right hand floor repair panel is supplied with the bus)
unfortunately after spending over £2500 on the welding with him i had to put the project on hold as i had to re focus my attention on a lister that i was also restoring so the vw got covered and left in his unit
so 6 years later the van now needs someone else to carry on and finish it off
there is still loads to do
the other side of the floor
both rear quarters
the windscreen surround
passengers front wheel arches
and im sure their is more !
the good news however the roof/ gutter is excellent and not suffering the usual t2 rot issues !
(the mechanics of the van are excellent)
the tailgate /boot / side door / both front doors are good to go again
all the glass is present
the interior is complete
fridge /hob/ awning/ cushions / fuel tank etc all there
i have the full v5c in my name
( since 11th november 2011)
hpi clear !
this is clearly and obviously a project needing a lot of work
