The racing prototype of the 300 SL was introduced at the International Motor Show in New York in Spring of 1952. Of the road version - known as “Gullwing” (W 198 I) - just 1,400 examples were produced between 1954 and 1957.
This 300 SL Coupé in silver metallic / interior checkered fabric / bluev leather was first delivered to Florida in July 1955. When coming back to Europe it first stayed in Paris until it finally returned to Germany. A Hessian collector then had the car extensively restored to the highest standards by a specialized company in Oerlinghausen. The work is documented by an extensive file of photos.
This “Gullwing” is in absolutely outstanding condition with its original engine („Matching-Numbers“!), equipped with the desirable Rudge wheels and a tailor made set of suitcases in blue leather.
Engine: Six cylinder in line, mechanical Bosch fuel injection, 2.996 cm³, approx. 215 hp.
Specifikation: Rudge wheels, set of suitcases, wooden sports steering wheel, FIVA paper
