1989 Range Rover Classic 2 Door 2.4 TD Manual (Suffix-A styling) For Sale
Peter Vardy Heritage are proud to offer this unique and "one of a kind" Range Rover Diesel Classic 2 Door. This lefthand drive example was originally used in Madrid and was repatriated to the UK in 2015. Unlike many Range Rover vehicles, this example has been exceptionally well cared for with no signs of corrosion. The 2393cc diesel engine is a very strong unit and, when mated to a manual gearbox such as this Range Rover, it becomes an absolute pleasure to drive. Mechanically, this is a very well sorted example.
In June 1970, the Range Rover was introduced to the public, to much critical acclaim. Notable off-road feats were winning the four-wheel drive class in the first Paris-Dakar Rally in 1979 and 1981. Through this very model, it appeared that Rover had succeeded in their goal of a car equally capable both on and off road – arguably, better than any four-wheel-drive vehicle of its generation.
The first generation Range Rover was produced between 1970 and 1996, although the original car was not designed as a luxury-type 4x4; whilst unequivocally up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards designed to be washed down with a hose. Features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth/leather seats and wooden interior trim were fitted later. The Range Rover was a body-on-frame design with a box section ladder type chassis similar to contemporary Land Rovers, draped with aluminium panels for strength and weight saving. The Range Rover utilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes.
However, the beauty in this "unique" example is in the styling. The vehicle has been professionally re-sprayed to the highest of standards in Shire Blue, but prior to doing so, the appearance has been revised to make the car look like 'Suffix-A' example. The bumpers front and rear have been immaculately painted in silver and a vertical aluminium grille and headlamp surrounds fitted. The car has been completely re-badged to suffix-A specification giving the car a retro look of the 70's yet reliability of a much later car. The interior of the vehicle is presented in the renowned deep pile velour, presented in immaculate condition, free of any rips, tears or wear, with all seats well sprung and showing no sings of sagging. The dashboard, centre console and door cards are in first class condition with no splits or cracks. In addition, all road wheels have been fully refurbished to present "as new". Quite evidently, this magnificent vehicle presents itself superbly and will be a talking point and head turner wherever it goes. Ready to be fully enjoyed by its new owner whether taken overseas, or retained as a classic investment, we believe you will not find a better example anywhere.
Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate, together with a good history folder confirming the low mileage, this is a Range Rover that needs to be viewed to be fully appreciated.
