The w113 roadster is considered by marque enthusiasts as one of the most iconic Mercedes of all time. In its 250 SL version it is the rarest of all representing only 12% of total production. It is also considered as the most representative as it features a fine combination of elements of the other 2 versions. More specifically, it retains the earlier 230SL's elegant 2-piece wheel look and sport suspension but not its underpowered engine. Similarly all performance upgrades and safety features standardized in the 280 SL were introduced via the 250 SL without the 280's stylistic compromisation of one-piece wheel covers.
The 250 SL featured here was produced only a few units before the end of production and incorporates all improvements made throughout the series, including the 'safety interior'. In 2008 it was sourced in Colorado and selected for its impeccable matching of sophisticated Dark Maroon over the interior's beautiful interplay of shades of brown and beige. Once acquired it was subject to a no-expense spared set of repairs that entailed a total overhaul of the engine, a rebuilt of the front end as well as a restoration of the interior with maximum preservation of the original trim. With less than 3000mi since repairs, it remains in excellent mechanical condition.
