The four-seat, coupé version of Fiat’s Ferrari-powered sports car appeared at the 1967 Geneva Show, a few months after the Dino Spider. The cars used a roadgoing version (by engineer Rocchi) of the little Dino Formula 2 V6. The project served two purposes: Ferrari could homologate the punchy 2.0-litre motor as a ‘production’ engine, and Fiat could associate itself Ferrari.
The first production Dino engine was a 1987cc, all-alloy unit fed by three Webers producing around 160bhp. Whether for Ferrari or Fiat, all V6s were manufactured and assembled in Turin to an identical specification, although Ferrari cast the sump and gearbox for the 206 GT, accepting only the upper half of the built-up engine from Fiat for final assembly in Maranello.
Compared to Pininfarina’s lithesome Spider, Bertone’s version was more sober-styled .The Coupés were slightly more expensive, at 4,100,000 lire, than the 3,930,000-lire Spiders but outsold them by quite a margin. A ‘proper’ 246 Dino at that time was 5,500,000 lire, by the way.
The motorcar offered #111, in according with ACI inspection, has been delivered 22-05-1967 in Bari. After the early life spent in south Italia it arrived in Treviso in 1982 and finally in Vicenza in 1986 from its last owner.
The last owner kept the car in a covered garage since 1986, he made the rebuilt engine in early 2000 and covered only 15000km.
The current owner, a Dino enthusiast, purchased the #111 in the end of 2017, and immediately noted the excellent condition of under body and upholstery (originally in red sky).
The #111 went to Bodyshop in early 2018 to scarped the old paint and to be repainted in original color Grigio Betulla 0603, changed all rubber parts and polished all inox parts.
Subsequently was rebuilt the front and rear axel (Included: breaks, shock absorbers), revised all parts of fuel line (fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel line and carburetors) and all the secondary organs of engine (radiator, belts , ignition system, new exhaust line original FIAT). All this works are documented in a photographic book of restoration.
The car has covered only 100km next restoration, it is accompanied with the Certificato di Origine FCA Heritage, photographic book of restoration, the original tool kits and the file history from new.
