This is a rare opportunity to buy one of these exclusive, Barker built drop head coupes.
The previous keeper had this car for over forty years, many of them were unfortunately spent in storage, the neglect resulted in corrosion to the front wings and bonnet. I purchased the old car several years ago and have been seeking the parts required to restore it. I have acquired an as new bonnet with side panels, an excellent offside front wing and have had extensive professional repairs made to the front nearside wing, and inner wing panels. I have stripped the entire body back to bare metal revealing numerous dents and several small splits in the aluminium, all of which will need repair. The ash frame is in good order and appears to require no attention. The interior decorative wood work has been removed, the dashboard re-veneered, and revarnished. The car is complete including all instruments/switches, most have been tested for correct operation and carefully stored away awaiting the day that they will be refitted.
The hood frame is all present and the car has a plastic hood, which could be repaired and used, or would provide an excellent pattern for a new mohair cover.
The engine is seized, but all correct ancillaries are present including the twin carbs with manifolds and dynamo (with rev counter take off) and desirable overdrive gearbox. The interior is all present, including the rear sideway facing seat and door cards, but all are in need of upholstering. I have owned this car for the last four or five years and have been collecting parts and gently progressing the restoration over this time.
I have recently come to realise that I am very unlikely to complete this restoration and have recently purchased an up and running car, which has brought me to the decision to sell this Daimler as an ongoing project.
Only 500 of these beautiful, hand built drop head coupes were built, they were based upon the rugged and popular DB18 chassis, the acquisition of a running saloon car would provide a quick answer to the restoration of this handsome and exclusive drop head coupe, the body will drop straight on to a DB18 saloon or Consort chassis.
Please call or email for more details - this is a genuine sale by a long term enthusiast of the marque. These cars rarely become available as restoration projects and with good ones fetching well over £30,000 this represents excellent value for money.
Only 500 of these beautiful, hand built drop head coupes were built, they are hugely undervalued in the classic car world and could well be the next model to suddenly take off in value (see recent rises in values of the Daimler 'Dart'). These cars are built on a well proven chassis by one of the best coachbuilders of the period. They are much better built than an XK Jaguar and far more rugged, they are excellent for long distance touring and perfect for the more mature driver. This is a very good example of the new shaped DB18 (as we would now refer to it today as the "face-lift" model). The earlier version of the 1947 / 48 DB18 had followed in the style from the the earlier,.....
