Fully Restored Austin Healey 3000 MK 1 BT7 1959 For Sale by Auction
Austin Healey 3000 Mk1 1959 (BT7)
Built between 14th July – 10th August 1959 at the Abington Factory for the North American market & originally shipped to a New York dealer
Original & correct matching engine, chassis & body numbers
Expertly restored by experienced & knowledgeable individuals
This car has recently been entirely dismantled & stripped down to the very last nut & bolt. In order to keep the car as original as possible, where feasible, existing parts have been painfully restored & repaired. Existing parts that could not be salvaged & brought in line with our high standards have been replaced sympathetically
In 1959 the original car left the Abington factory in Black with black hood & Red trim. The car has now been restored in the beautiful & iconic metallic Healey Blue over Ivory white, with classic Healey blue quality trim
The engine has also been fully dismantled, with the stripped head, block & parts being thoroughly cleaned via ultrasonic & dipping. Every part has then been checked, crack tested as necessary, with suspect parts replaced before re-assembling. As you would expect, to maintain high standards, brand new pistons, piston rings & bearings have been fitted. The cylinder re-bored, crankshaft re-ground and along with other work carried out, the engine can now be considered to have zero mileage
The interior upholstery has been professionally re-trimmed to a very high standard using high quality leather & carpet ensuring that the material & colours used are as close as possible to the original ones used at the time of production
Typically, with the Big Healey’s renowned Sports Pedigree, many owners were motoring enthusiasts & keen to make improvements to their cars, often looking to enhance performance or personize their pride & joy. This car is no exception & during the last 60 years past owners have made some upgrades. During the rebuild, this has been considered, & as these upgrades were carried out many years ago & with original Austin Healey parts, we have decided to maintain the car’s personized originality. Indeed the upgrades are logical having benefitted the performance & handling of the car as follows:
Following upgrades fitted to the car before restoration:
Carburettors: Upgraded to the larger 2” throat HD8 replacing the smaller 1 ¾ throat HD6 would have been fitted originally. This upgrade will enhance performance.
Front Brake Callipers: Upgraded to a larger calliper & therefore the larger brake pad. Often brakes are overlooked when more power is added. This is obviously an important upgrade to braking performance
Rev Counter: Upgraded from cable to electronic & this will improve accuracy
Front wishbones: standard replaced with stronger upgraded ones which will enhance strength
Front anti-roll bar: stiffer than standard which will improve grip to the rear of the car under cornering
Top Trunnions: upgrade making steering more comfortable & easier to turn
Gearbox: Later Mk2’s & all Mk3’s were upgraded to a more manageable central positioned gear lever. This upgrade had been added to this car.
Rear axle: In line with the upgraded gearbox the rear axle/differential has been also upgrade to retain integrity
Following upgrades introduced at the time or restoration:
Halogen Head Lights: Enhanced night time vision
Aluminium Radiator: Cooling issues are well documented & this upgrade will assist to eliminate this
Included in the sale of the car BMIHT Certificate, drivers handbook, spare key, tool roll, lifting jack.
The price advertised is below our expectations & therefore we are inviting offers above this.
The car is 95% complete & we anticipate that the car will be complete & ready for collection in March.
