1937 MGTA Special
History of this car as reported:
MG TA, 1937, brought to Austria by a British army officer in the 1940s.
(Officially registered in Austria in 1948) Between 1945 and 1955 British
troops were stationed in Parts of Austria The car was left back in Austria
and became the first racing car of the young Erich Breinsberg.
He raced in a few hill climb competitions after the engine broke, he
replaced it with a Triumph mechanic and raced again, but he later focused on
small formula series, where he was a successful driver in the late 1960s.
Breinsberg won the Formula V Europe-Championship, the Austrian Championship
and raced and won the Europe Gold Championship as well in Formula Super V
and the Trans Atlantic Challenge in Daytona/USA
In his last years, he drove since 1967 in the racing team of Kurt Bergmann
together with Dieter Quester (who focused on the European Touring Car
Championship and won it in 1969, later formula 1 Driver), Helmut Marko (won
Le Mans in 1971) and Niki Lauda.
In 1969 he won the Austrian Formula Car Championship ahead of the almost 9
years younger newcomer Niki Lauda. In a time were his teammates became
successful at international races, Breinsberg, also a generation of racing
drivers older, retired from his active motorsport career, because of his
wife, the daughter of LIEWERS, the biggest Austrian Volkswagen Dealer and
worked there in the following years as CEO.
This TA was bought from "AUTOHAUS LIEWERS" in the year 1991. Has got
complete Austrian registration papers and a copy from the vehicle department
of Vienna with the deregistration (probably to avoid taxes and insurance)
from Erich Breinsberg dated 6. Aug. 1965.
2015 I bought this car (bits and pieces) via Darren Goodgame from Brooklands
Bodycraft, and assigned Darren the Job of rebuilding the car to my and his ideas.
The job of Rebuilding the engine was assigned to John Seeber, who is very well
known. The engine was completely stripped, balanced and built up new from
scratch. It is a 14 hp Hornet engine with 85 KW.
The Axles and Frame have been sandblasted and repainted with a rustproof coating and
then painted in black.
Over 2015 the car was rebuilt as you can see the different stages documented in the
enclosed pictures. At this very moment, the car is being prepared for registration in
Germany and gets a Tourneau cover tailored to it. It will be ready and road

Gorgeous car that was restored some years by a specialist at great expense.
Was sold new in Australia in 1938, had a TC motor and gearbox fitted while there, came to NZ in the late 1950's.
Has TC wheels, the five 19 inch original TA wheels are in good condition and are with the car.

This lovely MG TA was purchased in Melbourne Australia in May 2002 from an MG specialist whilst I was travelling there on business. I am an avid collector of MG’s having had many pre and post war MG t types, MG TF and MGA 1600 and Twin Cam models.

1937 MG TA - The replacement for the PB Midget came in the form of the new TA in 1936. An evolution of the previous model it was some 3 inches wider in its track and the wheel base was increased by 7 inches giving an improved ride and more room in the cockpit.
