1980 Talbot Solara 1.6 GLS Series 1 Project, Rare! For Sale
Finished in white with blue vinyl roof and matching blue cloth interior, I would say ORW68W is best described as a survivor car as it is a useable, unrestored 38 year old classic. There are various remedial repairs all over in the form of different shades of white, areas of rust and a bit of filler here and there but overall it is solid with some welding having been done recently at significant expense. It won't win any shows, but it could make for a good first classic. The interior is in good original condition with no damage to the seats or door cards, there are a couple of cracks to the dash but nothing major.
There are a couple of issues which I have noticed: the passenger front window (electric) is very slow to go down so I tend not to use it. The driver side works fine. Also, the passenger rear door does not seem to open. Finally, it does let in a little water if we get a big downpour, luckily this seem to collect conveniently on the shelf below the glovebox so can be easily soaked up and it doesn't make its way down to the carpets or anything.
It runs and drives however it is quite spluttery and wants to cut out at low speeds/ rpms if you don't give it enough throttle. Before my ownership, the car was fitted with a new twin choke weber carburetor which cost a small fortune. In my ownership, I have so far changed the fuel pump, fitted an inline fuel filter, new spark plugs, new ignition (HT) leads, new distributor cap & rotor arm however either the carb needs adjusting (air/ fuel mixture?) or it needs a new ignition coil as the problem still persists. It never fails to start during the time I've owned it. It would probably be advisable to have it trailered/ delivered unless you live locally. The engine is strong and always shows good oil pressure so no issues there it seems, it also runs perfectly at medium-high revs every time I have taken it out and has a good turn of pace when required.
MOT until August 2019.
The odometer reads just under 85k which I have no reason to disbelieve.
Comes with various keys and booklets/ service history/ paperwork.
So if you're looking for a cheap and quirky classic that can be improved as you use it, then this could be the car for you, will also be tax and MOT exempt in a couple of years which is a bonus.
No space to keep it anymore so it has to go - lowered price further to sell, £750 ONO.
I use Shiply for delivery quotes if you're interested in having it couriered: - details above

The most successful division of the Anglo-French Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq combine, Talbot might well have escaped take-over by Rootes in 1935 had it not been shackled to its weaker partners.
