I am now reducing my personal collection and offer this beautiful example for sale. It has been a fabulous car to own, show and drive over the last 18 years, and it has taken 12 months to decide to sell it.
It has been in regular use and has been extensively maintained and felted by myself. McGrath Maserati UK have regularly serviced it to a very high standard. Originally restored in Modena. Maserati Classiche certification. A very well known and loved car within UK Maserati Club. Exhibited regularly at major events, European tours and rallies.
Unlike many similar classics, this car has and is used regularly, and it would be capable of a 1,000 mile journey with full confidence.
Very recently had complete engine rebuild by McGrath Maserati, the Borrani wheels restored with new top quality Michelin Pilot tyres all round. Ready to drive anywhere. The car is fully documented in several large volume files.
Engine - 3694 cc, all alloy, 6 cylinder with triple Weber carbs. Twin cams, Transmission – five speed ZF standard gate, manual, twin spark. 245 BHP claimed top speed in period 158 MPH.
Wheels and tyres – original Borrani polished aluminium, knock on wheels with stainless steel spokes, 16” Michelin Pilot racing tyres.
Believed produced 245 Series 2 Sebrings, probably only around 100 or so left – worldwide. Styling by Michelotti, Coach built Bodywork by Vignale.
Originally sold new by Pozzi in Paris, it was registered in the South of France and remained there until purchased by a well-known French collector / restorer in 1989. The car was taken to Modena where it was treated to a full bare metal strip downs and rebuild with work being completed in 1996. The restoration work was carried out by Autosport in Bastiglia and Franco Tralli in Modena. The car remained unused for 5 years until purchased by me in 2001 as a 40th birthday present, from me to me.
It was driven back from Italy and since its arrival in the UK has won numerous concours awards within the Maserati UK owners club, it is also a regular at many of the club rallies and events and is regularly driven and enjoyed.
It is also featured on the front cover and inside the November 2009 Classic and Sports car magazine, and has been displayed several times at the NEC Classic Car Show, and Hampton Court Palace concours, among others.
New sills and full cosmetic repaint and refresh in 2013/14 by Kustom 101, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. It has toured Scotland, and has had many trips across Europe including visits to the Le Mans 24 hour Classic.
Original famous owners of Sebring’s when new: Luciano Pavarotti and Adrian Swarovski, of opera and crystal fame, respectively. Original new cost £5,486 approx. from Maserati Concession Ltd, Brompton Road, London, SW3, a similar price to that of a new Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. There were just a few UK supplied right hand drives.
The engine has received a major rebuild. Completed in March 2017 by world renowned Marque specialists McGrath Maserati, along with various other mechanical improvements.
This is a much loved and useable classic, winner of many awards over the years.
It has a huge history file, which also includes production certification from the Maserati factory. An attractive period GT Car, befitting any European playboy of the 1960’s.
