For Sale is this very rare 1986 VW Transporter T3 Syncro single cab pick up. Finished in original Escorial Green paintwork with beige vinyl with black rubber carpets the vehicle is without doubt as untouched as you may ever find, perhaps the condition and lack of corrosion is due to the Permanent PVC Underbody Protection (option code 640) as per the original build sheet. Other features on the build sheet include the 90HP 2,100cc fuel injected engine designation code MV, rear mudflaps, lockable rear hatches and the original Alpha mono digital radio which still works and retains the instruction booklet.
The upper body of the vehicle has only light areas of corrosion, some may say patina. The faded paintwork look may be left as it is as it is deemed very fashionable nowadays. Alternatively, with this vehicle never having had a restoration previously, it would make a perfect candidate to make into something really special with fresh paint. The pick up body drop sides are in near perfect condition with only light surface scratches, these are so difficult and time consuming to restore if they are damaged. Inside the cab area the dashboard has no cracks, the headlining and sunvisors are original and in great condition as are the door cards and rubber floor covering. The seats are original beige basketweave type vinyl with the twin bench being near perfect and the drivers seat showing early signs of wear and the odd split.
Underneath the truck, you will see from the high res photos taken, the condition is remarkably good with the aforementioned underbody PVC protection still in place in most areas still showing original features as only a VW could achieve at this age. There is one very small area of corrosion (photo taken) at the LH front of the cab near the door step. This may just be surface rust but it needs investigating never the less, there are no nasty oil leaks.
The vehicle starts and runs very well indeed. It has had a LPG conversion with the tank being located in a trunk at the front of the load area behind the cab, I’m sure this could be removed if originality is more important than economy. The transmission is 4 speed manual with an additional crawler gear used for adverse conditions. All the gears work very well with no transmission noises through the 4x4 drive gear and no crunchy synchromesh up or down the box, please see the video we have taken of the vehicle on the road where you will see how good the truck pulls, steers and stops.
This is a very rare vehicle indeed that in a condition as original and untouched as this only comes along occasionally, especially in the UK. All the original books, including the service and radio instruction manual, are in the original VAG plastic folder. It drives very well and is an ideal candidate for simple cosmetic improvements. We are assuming the van has covered 195,000km which is approx 121,000 miles but we cannot warranty this mileage as we are not positive this is correct however the evience suggests it is.
