Solid right hand drive Devon conversion aircooled bus, manual transmission 2ltr engine, twin carbs. Original German manufactured bus. Mileage 23K
Gaston has lived in more exotic climates in his time. Years spent in warmer weather has been kind to his bodywork. Registered in the UK in 1974, he soon left and was shipped to Australia.
He was imported back into the country in 2003 by a couple in Tunbridgewells, they spared no expense in refurbishing him. Paintwork, upgrade to a rebuilt type 4 2ltr engine, reconditioned pop top, new interior. He was garaged by this couple and was used as Saturday run bus. If it was raining he didn’t go out that week, but was driven on the next dry day to keep him ticking over.
Since he joined me and became “Gaston”. I have had the following upgraded/installed, Bluetooth CD Radio, painted dash, power steering, wooden steering wheel, historical black and silver number plates, child cab hammock, whale gas night heater, 2 x 3 –point rear seat belts and engine suppression fire kit.
There is also a 2 burner hob, gas bottle, sink, pop up roof, rotating passenger seat, ¾ rock and roll bed and sunroof that the previous owner added.
I have a chunk of paperwork and notes from the previous owner who was extremely good in his record keeping, no stone unturned! Written reports on repairs and general running.
New paint job end of 2018, by renowned VW specialist IRVS Restorations. Gaston wasn’t painted back on the bus, to give the new the owner the option to change the name if they wish. Regularly wax oiled and again at the same time as respray. This was done before being stored inside for the winter.
Comes with a new MOT, new rules means historical vehicles do not require an MOT, but this gives peace of mind that the bus has been maintained. The V5 is present and bears my name and address. He is a dream to drive and starts every time.
