1984 Reliant Rialto 2 GLS Saloon with genuine 17 thousand miles and in great condition.
came from ex reliant dealer in tamworth in march 2017, the car was bought from the same dealer in 1984 and 2 years later the car had a crash which resulted in it needing a new bodyshell, the body was replaced with a brand new bodyshell from the factory in 1989 (which is why it has side repeaters) but it was never finished and sat in storage , this is why the mileage is so low and its first MOT was actually in 2017 because it never got to its first MOT at 3 years old.
A lot of the trim was missing ,now fitted new old stock or the best second hand parts (most of them very rare now):
-NOS front and rear bumpers
-NOS front indicator lamps
-NOS front grill
-Replaced the original plastic original windows with glass
-Sourced original reliant stripes and decals
-Brand new guttering
-New rear boot lock
replaced everything rubber on the car as it had perished so every hose, clip everything involving the cooling system was changed, headgasket and replaced all the engine seals and gaskets including the timing chain tensioner - as you can imagine inside the engine looked like new. rebuild the SU carb, replaced the clutch and refreshed everything mechanically on the car ready for road use again including replacing the entire braking system (including copper brake pipes).
Lots of upgrades on the ,including
hun-A genuine reliant expansion bottle and washbottle kit
-Fitted a stainless exhaust - a genuine reliant 1 piece stainless exhaust with the larger oval back box, these are far better than the cheap noisey after market exhausts sold now
-3 core radiator which helps cooling
-It has fitted a cast iron exhaust manifold from a mk3 robin, these are ported to give the same HP increase as a 4 branch manifold
-Ported and polished inlet manifold
-Later mk3 robin carb pre heater and pipe work - this makes the car warm up faster and a warmer heater and give less hot spots on the cooling system
removed tballast resistor as these are wired into the loom and can give troubles, so its now straight 12v and uses a Lucas Gold 12v coil
recent tyres and fitted with a pair of replica mini cooper alloys (look like steelies) with good quality thick chrome hub caps - original silver steel rims are with the car .
The interior is in brilliant condition, the dashboard has none of the usual cracks round the dials and the seats came from a low mileage later model with the matching door cards, roller belts instead of the static ones.
This is a rare rialto 2 model, that means it has the 850cc HTE engine (nick named the yellow top) which is the high compression version of reliants engine ,this model was only produced for 18 months in this specification and is why they are rare, most were destroyed building trikes . This car is also even rarer as its the saloon model, most rialto 2's produced were estate models.
The car is well known in the Reliant Owners Club was displayed on the club stand at the practical classics restoration show and at the NEC classic car show
This little Robin needs some TLC! She runs lumpy. I believe its needing new rings. She has had fitted new plugs and leads. New Fuel pipe from pump to carb too. New fuel pump was also fitted. I now.....
