1976 Daimler Sovereign Coupe 4.2 - 65,000 miles - on The Market For Sale by Auction
Auction is LIVE now, and finishes on 21st February at www.themarket.co.uk, provider of the UK’s Largest Online Classic Car Auctions.
This delightful example has spent the previous few months shuttling brides-to-be around, a gentle, undemanding role that has contributed to its odometer reading of just under 65,000 miles - and that mileage is supported with more than thirty years’ worth of expired MOT certificates, which must be some kind of record.
Supplied new by Dutton Forshaw of Maidenhead and showing eleven previous owners, it has been the recipient of thousands of pounds’ worth of fettling within the last year, which has left it looking great and running well, just in time for its new owner to enjoy it carefree during the forthcoming spring and summer!
The paintwork presents very well for its age and the shutlines are as neat and even as any Jaguar/Daimler of the period and the flanks are free of ripples and any obvious car-park dinks.
The bodywork is largely free of rust, although there is the odd minor bubble, most notably on the leading edge of the bonnet just aft of the Daimler chrome trim and around one of the headlights.
More importantly, the wheelarch lips appear to be in great shape, which is indicative of a series of caring and cautious owners. The car has clearly had some localised repairs in the past - including replacement rear lower quarters and a rear valance, courtesy of its current owner - but these have been done well and in no way distract from its good looks or integrity.
The exterior chromework is presentable rather than concours, but it should polish up nicely, even if the chrome is a little thin and slightly pitted in places. The black vinyl roof is also in good shape, being taut and ripple-free.
The underside has been neatly undersealed in the past and appears to have kept the dreaded rot and rust away. However, it could do with being refreshed in places as it is starting to peel and flake in places. This would be an easy, if messy, job that shouldn’t take more than a leisurely afternoon for the new owner to complete.
Daimler mudflaps have been fitted, along with period-correct number plates.
Oh, and the steel wheels, which are in good shape and have the correct Daimler chrome wheel trims fitted, have matching Vredestein Sportrac tyres. If you were ever in any doubt as to the care the Daimler has received in recent years, the fact that someone has gone to the time and expense of fitting a full set of premium tyres should go a long way towards reassuring you.…much more text on our website.
