1967 TRIUMPH VITESSE 2 LITRE - SUPER DRIVING SPORTS SALOON SOLD

Here's my 1967 Triumph Vitesse 2 litre Mark 1 in Valencia Blue. Overall, a presentable 60s sports saloon which drives superbly. I can vouch for that. I have just done 30 miles in her this morning and she certainly loves being put through her paces. At 70pmh-plus (beware of Police, even in a classic!) she is totally comfortable. She has the look of a car that has been restored and then not done too many miles. To that end, there are cosmetic areas here and there on the bodywork which some would ignore and others would improve. Her chassis is very good and the underside is straight and clean apart from one small non-structural bit which I found today while cleaning her. It's just a drain hole in the passenger's foot well and I kind of enlarged it a little with my finger. It's back to strong metal now. That and some paint blebbing to the bottom of the nearside door are probably the worst - apart from the black wing mirrors which I hate!

Basically a bargain Vitesse, eminently usable with room to improve should you choose to. Her interior is tidy, although one area of stitching has come away on the passenger's seat. A fun and eye-catching classic with bags of Vitesse vroom vroom to her. A non-overdrive model despite the boot badge and her Vin is a DL meaning she never came with it (DLO). She is perfectly comfortable with her 4 gears as I mentioned earlier!

All my classic cars are treated as the equivalent of motoring antiques. This one, for example, is 52-years-old. They cannot be compared to the wife's six-month-old Chelsea tractor and they are bound to come with imperfections, quirks and bits and pieces that will need attention even if it is some time in the future. They do however come with oodles of charm, appeal and are there to be loved like a family pet. If you are new to the classic car scene, then please bear all this in mind. Most examples have clearly had work over the decades and I cannot predict how much or how little they will need in the future. That, I am afraid, is the nature of the beast in the world of classic cars. Motoring antiques is what they are. I love my Georgian dining table, but I can see all the scars and signs of previous woodworm. Had I wanted a brand new table, I would have gone to Oak Furniture Land. Well perhaps. Demand is outstripping supply these days and they don't make the old girls any more. So, make some allowances and drive away with a smile on your face. It goes with the territory, and therefore must be accepted, that they are always going to need on-going care, attention and repair. Don't tell me some way down the line that the full beam doesn't work or that you have discovered something I knew nothing about. They are bloody old. It happens. They come in and they go out. It seems as though I have become a "re-homer" of classic cars.
