The Ferrari 550 Maranello marked the return of a front engine, rear wheel drive, 2 seater V12, 23 years after the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona’s production ended. In 2002, Ferrari replaced the 550 Maranello with the updated 575M Maranello; in terms of appearance this meant minor styling improvements by Pininfarina, a renewed interior and new wheels.
The most significant changes being mechanically with an increase in displacement to 5.75 litres, larger brake discs, better weight distribution, improved aerodynamics and an adaptive suspension working in conjunction with the newly offered F1 semi-automatic gearbox, which shifted in as fast as 200 milliseconds. All of the above resulting in 515 hp, a top speed of 199 mph and a 0-62 mph launch in 4.2 seconds.
This particular Ferrari 575M Maranello was produced in July 2003 for H R Owen and ordered in Blue Tour de France with a Beige interior, blue contrasting stitching, blue carpets and blue scuro dashboard and steering wheel. The options specified were the ‘Scuderia’ Ferrari shields and the modular 19” wheels.
Offered today for sale with 35,200 miles and 5 previous owners, this car has had its cambelts done in May 2017 with a full service. It has been maintained its whole life by very reputable independent Ferrari specialists and has received a Capristo exhaust system.
The Ferrari 575M with the introduction of the 599 in 2006, became an instant classic and is now very sought out, with just 182 F1s delivered to the UK. It is the last of the iconic and less technological Ferrari V12s and will only increase in value as they get tucked away in collections.
