1982 Rare Reliant GTE 2.8 automatic with power steering For Sale

Good points Rare 1982 2.8 auto this is the only 2.8 I can find on the market with this fantastic engine only 407 ever made very original car and has not been messed about with power steering, electric windows and NO sunroof to leak! kept garaged by myself and previous owner unleaded petrol conversion and recon gearbox 17000 miles ago drives really well, sounds amazing does not overheat, fan kicks in etc all dials work and good oil pressure very tidy engine bay for age and solid chassis heater blower works (replaced with low amp blowers) stacks of paperwork including lots of receipts for lots of items over the years, brochures manual and handbook mot till october, new oil, filters, exhaust rubbers, plugs, leads,fuel filter fuel line, wheel nuts,manifold gaskets, brake clips and pins etc comes with a box full of parts including new valve cover gaskets (was going to paint the valve covers but leave for new owners preference, a complete bottom end gasket set including upgraded sump gasket, and complete set of new rubber bushes for when they are needed seats and carpets are really good for age, seat covers fitted to front seats to protect them, interior is really good for an original 1982 interior with no tears in the dash wolfrace wheels just been polished look great but i did it myself I'm not a professional! tyres have excellent tread but some cracks, Bits that may need improvement body has the usual 37 year old blemishes blisters and is typical scimitar but looks good from a few meters away and still gets admiring looks and comments tailgate gas struts haver lost their strut! speedo cable noisy when cold, and flutters up and down slightly (but still gives accurate reading) interior light not working (may be bulb) there is an alarm with remotes fitted but I dont like them so never tried it but i do have the certificate thing to show insurance that its been fitted, a few advisories (details further down) some wobbly rattly switches and trim pieces as expected on a car this age weather strips on the front windows are a bit untidy I am in the middle of rubbing down the rubber bumpers to show how well they will come up, rear is almost done but front will need doing, I think they would look great in red but some prefer black so it's all original for now More Info in detail Reluctantly I am offering for sale my scimitar due to unforeseen difficulties with disability, I have always wanted a scimitar and having owned many old fords back in the day I always preferred the 2.8 cologne engine than the essex v6, when i heard they made 407 gte's with this engine I had to have one, but they are very hard to find, especially in automatic which is a must for me! Since purchasing the car I have given it a lot of tlc, when i got her she did have mot but the previous owner had not used her much recently and she was pretty much doing a few miles per year to mot's etc! there were a few advisory's on the last mot, surface rust on underside and springs (all springs have surface rust in my opinion they move so paint flakes off!) oil leak, tyres cracking, and a couple of brake pipes, I bought the car as she is a solid example and having 2 owners most of her life and being red and the 2.8 auto I couldn't resist,, when i took delivery of the car I was disappointed with the bodywork which looks great from 10 feet away but when you get in close you see its a 1982 fibreglass car! there is no way to sugar coat the fact that if you want a perfect looking scimitar then this is almost an impossible ask but this one could be made alot better as it has lots of bubbles all over it, so if you want a perfect car you will need to do the paint on it which is way beyond my ability!, but what I love about these cars is that although there are bubbles in the paint you know its not due to rust, I love capris but they crumble with rust in front of your eyes! the scimitar in my opinion is a much better drive and looks as good if not better but without the rust issues,, So I got the car and decided to give it some tlc before using it, I took all 4 wheels off, freed off the brakes and painted the calipers, also fitted new brake clips and pins, I replaced the manifold gaskets as there was a blow and painted the manifolds, I purchased a complete engine gasket kit to solve the oil leak including an expensive upgraded sump gasket which will come with the car because when i changed the oil and filter I discovered that he leak was cured afterwards so i suspect the filter or sump plug was leaking, so she now has fresh oil, filter and new sump plug, new air and fuel filter, bosch spark plugs and new HT leads, the carb looks really clean and the previous owner had it rebuilt, the car drives really well and if you need her to go she will!! I have spent many hours sorting things out to bring up to a useable classic, and pretty much everything works, except the rear tailgate will not stay up by itself, I cant seem to get the interior light to work, I have jacked the car up using the outrigger jacking points and the chassis is solid but could benefit from a clean up and undersealing so it looks better but its certainly not turning to dust! so in all this is a nice rare useable classic car with mot until october, yes I'm sure improvements could be made etc like a few door adjustments and rubber weather strips and bodywork but she is a lovely runner and cheap to own practical classic which even has a towbar! This car has had very few owners, the previous owner to me had the car 15 years and the owner before that purchased the car in 1985, in 1999 at 75486 miles with the availability of 4* all but gone the engine and gearbox were removed, the engine was rebuilt to use unleaded petrol and gearbox and torque converter were re conditioned, there is a massive file of paperwork to show how well this car has been cherished, interior pretty good condition, no cracks in the dash top, rear seat belts, headlining is a bit tatty, a few loose switches and trim but not bad for the age, In 1978 the SE6a had a much needed rethink with a stronger scuttle, stiffer front springs, a change to Lockheed brakes. 1980 SE6b debuts with the new Ford 2.8-litre Cologne engine boasting better cooling and a lower final drive ratio; When Ford’s 2.8-litre Cologne V6 replaced the Essex unit in 1980, the resulting SE6b was smoother and more refined, the SE6B, “Cologne” V6 from the Capri. introduced new levels of performance to the Scimitar, thanks to its healthy 135 hp. Although considered powerful for its day, the GTE could still deliver nearly 28 mpg. ONLY 407 were made with the 2.8 engine of which this car is one of the survivors, The final Reliant-built car was made in 1986, and delivered to GTE fan HRH Princess Anne who owned many GTE's With excellent handling care of a pretty sophisticated Aston-like suspension set up, a decent ride and plenty of feedback from the brakes as well as the steering, the GTE is more of a driver’s car than you’d think any estate of this era could ever be, The GTE’s forté remains its impressive long distance cruising all were good for neigh on 120mph pace and a respectable 22-28mpg depending upon driving style. the sporting hatchback. With a huge fuel tank, the car can cruise at high speeds for mile after mile, while carrying a family and its luggage in comfort. Performance and handling aren’t lacking, and neither is the car’s practicality. Could this be the most practical sporting classic ever built yet also one of the most underrated? The merits of the Scimitar GTE are as strong now as a classic as when the car was contemporary and they make excellent working classics I have piles of paperwork for this car showing the miles to be true and previous owners names on s/h etc Some wise words, if you are under 30 and have not driven a car of this age you might not realise that back in the 80's cars were not the same,, firstly they were a bit lumpy until warm as carburetters were not as clever as injection systems of todays modern cars, this car is no exception and typical of the era, once warm though she runs like a swiss watch! and the brakes on these older cars required a bit more effort than you will be expecting after driving your euroboxes! this is not a new car please expect it will need work as all classics do (that's the fun of owning one!) Viewings welcome for serious buyers message me for a viewing, I will not get the car out if it rains! I have tried to give a very accurate description but its hard to show every blemish on limited photos and describing everything isn't always possible, the car is sold as seen due to age etc and I really don't want any time wasters please I am looking for a larger classic auto due to disability so may take px/swap etc
