1969 Austin A60 Half-Ton Pick-Up (rare original) For Sale
A rare vehicle - one of the last assembled by former BMC (then Leyland) in Cape Town, South Africa.
This 1969 model is the A60 Cambridge Half-ton Pick-up, however effectively is the same design as the A50/A55 from earlier years, although it has the larger 1622cc motor that was used in the then sedan A60 Farina models of this period.
It’s a one-family owned vehicle since new, kept for a large part of time inland (800km from coast) in dry conditions, thus no significant rust ever occurring.
It is still in a very original unmolested condition, and has never been restored.
The ‘Cooper green’ paintwork is still original, and has never had any notable damage (except the front right fender that was repaired after a minor incident early in early years).
Being a 50-year-old original that has stood the test of time, there are obviously a few blemishes and ‘pimples’ around, however all is there and everything functions correctly, with every single item, trim and button/knob still intact.
The original chrome-work is also all still in very good condition.
The current mileage is genuinely only 55700 miles.
There are a few minor surface-rust marks here and there, but no significant structural corrosion is noted.
In recent years a few minor mechanical items and issues have been seen to, including:
- Replaced all hydraulic (brake and clutch) rubber hoses and cylinder kits.
- Front brake shoes and bearing seals replaced.
- Water pump was reconditioned (with ceramic seals).
- Windscreen and rear window rubbers were replaced, as well as side window rubber channels.
- Front grill surrounds were re-powder coated to original ivory colour.
- New set of white-wall tyres fitted (wheel alignment was still spot-on!)
- Period oval chrome internal rear-view mirror fitted (never included as factory item in this model).
- Period deep-dish round chrome front spotlights fitted.
Apart from these, everything is as it was built, in all its retro glory!
Included are a full workshop manual, the original manuals and documents, also original invoice etc from when it was purchased 50 years ago.
Recently the vehicle was used for three months as daily transport around town with no issues.
Other than that it’s used for Sunday drives and occasional shows.
The vinyl RAF 'Spitfire' roundels on the doors can be peeled off (only placed there for a recent motor show).
It is licenced and on the road (all paperwork in order), and can be kept and driven as-is for original authenticity, or restored if concourse condition is required.
Reluctant sale, price already reduced and not negotiable.
Shipping costs and other customs/duties if exported are at the buyer's expense.
