Austin Healey 3000 Mk I chassis BN7-L/2551. This early version of the Healey 3000 is a genuine BN7 2-seater car. 650 UYH was built on the 24th – 25th June 1959 and left the factory in the most desirable Healey colour of Healey Blue over Ivory White. The Healey was sold new in Chicago USA with wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering column, road speed tyres, laminated windscreen, miles-per-hour speedometer and overdrive. In 2014 the Healey was imported back to the UK and registered with its current registration number and owner. The car was subject to a right-hand drive steering conversion and light restoration work.
A structurally superb Healey, this car retains its original chassis. The car has excellent panel gaps and in March 2018 was subject to a full bare metal outer body respray in its original colour of Healey Blue and Ivory White. The paintwork was completed by Pro line paint specialists in Earls Barton and the quality is excellent with special attention to the gaps and swage lines. During the paint process, a new aluminium bonnet and boot were fitted for improved panel fit by Motor Circuit Bodies.
In the current owner’s ownership, this superb example of an Austin Healey 3000 has had a full lead-free conversion, suspension and brake overhaul, new 72 spoke chrome wire wheels and interior trim components from John Skinner Manufacturing that include new seat covers, carpets and trim panels.
The car retains its original engine and gearbox with numbers confirmed on the BMIHT Heritage Certificate.
Running on its original 1 ¾” HD6 SU carbs, the engine has excellent oil pressure hot or cold, runs smoothly and does not overheat. Cold start is excellent. A stainless-steel tubular exhaust manifold has been recently fitted along with a side exit stainless exhaust silencer to match.
Recent mechanical work by ourselves at JME Healeys include a gearbox rebuild, front suspension work along with a fully documented service and checkover.
Of all the Austin Healeys JME sees through its door on an annual basis, this car needs to be inspected and driven to fully appreciate its ride quality, performance and refinement. This really is a high-quality example and should be driven and enjoyed. Finding a better driving 3000 MKI will be difficult. The engine pulls superbly. The four-speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly and the overdrive operates correctly. With responsive brakes, positive steering, smooth suspension ride, it's certainly one of the best driving MKI 3000's seen through our doors.
