1971 Austin Mini Cooper S Re-creation Supercharged For Sale
1970 Mk 3 Mini Cooper S re-creation.
The shell has been subject to an extensive renovation at Old Skool Minis in Birmingham and fitted with many new heritage panels. Then two pack resprayed in the original colour. Luckily the car was ziebart rustproofed from new.
( it even still has the sticker in the rear window). So less extensive work than expected.
The original 1000cc engine, brakes and suspension were removed and replaced with new front Cooper S disc brakes, Hubs, inner and outer CV joints, rear backplates complete, Alloy minifin drums, Negative camber arms, adjustable HD tie bars, rear camber and toe correction brackets. Hilo suspension trumpets all around and Gaz adjustable dampers. All lights inside and out changed to LED, inc headlights.
A good 1275 A+ engine and gearbox was sourced and stripped. The block chemically cleaned, Bored to 1293cc, and an MED ctr main strap was fitted. New oilway plugs and core plugs installed. The crank main and big end bearing faces were all good, so just new competition shells were installed. The crank was wedged and balanced. The rods were polished and balanced to within a gram.
New parts fitted: Kent 266 cam, duplex chain MED vernier pulleys, High capacity Turbo oil pump. MED 1.5 roller rocker assembly with post shims.
A Benross engineering Turbo head with oversize valves and new Double springs and seals, skimmed for correct compression, Omega forged deep dish pistons, Maniflow LCB and RC40 exhaust, Electronic ignition with distributor matched to camshaft profile. MED untralight billet flywheel and backplate,A high-pressure fuel pump.New MED Orange diaphragm pressure plate,all balanced.
A fully rebuilt Gearbox with a 3.11 final drive with a new Quaife ATB differential. (I've driven quick minis before but this diff means hardly any of the power is wasted with wheelspin and doesn't snatch like a plate diff.) even the speedo gear drive was matched to the Cooper S centre speedo to ensure a correct reading. a quick shift lever was also fitted. New high capacity radiator and electric fan This was all topped off with a Vmax scart Supercharger kit with a new 40 DCOE.
I picked a 3.11 diff ratio as a good compromise between acceleration and top speed. it could easily cope with a 2.7 as it has got lots of smooth linear power and torque. It ticks over at just under 1000 rpm and runs smoothly to 6000+
After running in, the engine was set up at Southam Mini Ctr and the suspension was laser aligned to fast road specification locally. Colin from Southam said transmission losses through a helical box & drops would mean the crank figure would be approx 140 BHP

The car has 4 1/2 j Minilight wheels, fitted with almost new Yokohamas. a Cooper S rear badge, Innocenti 14" steering wheel, Black vinyl dash rail and 'S' ashtray, rev counter, USB socket and Dummy right-hand tank filler.
The car is £16995.00 as is, or can be taken back to standard 1000 spec, supplied with the standard 1000cc engine fitted, and all original suspension, brakes, instruments, trim etc re-fitted and the car bought for £9000.00 ( i have kept all the original '1000' parts).
'Ruby' was entered in the Italian job Run to Italy late last year and came 2nd in the navigation regularity competition.
Receipts, Photo evidence and videos of all work done would be provided to the purchaser.
Of course, the car benefits from free RFL and Is MOT exempt due to historical classification.
