A project started by me and a good amateur repairer in 2013. Basically to fill in time between contracting work.
Time has passed, the bodywork guy has got divorced, I’ve since completed a G Wagon and Unimog; the contract work has turned to permanent, abroad, and so this is for reluctant sale.
I’ve got to emphasise that, prior to body work this was a complete drivable car with no engine issues or major MOT faults. Not a barn find, a part completed restoration.
I’ve tried to put a percentage of completeness for the car in terms of what has been done and time needed, by someone who knows these cars, would take to finish with costs of respray excluded.
The SE is 75% of body done; I bought it complete and put through mot which it failed on due to windscreen washer fail and a few bulbs blown and advisory on underside rust.
The engine sounded really smooth so I decided to address the rust and get the bodywork (slight rust on a few areas and sunroof) done.
The underbody rust was extensive and had taken out part of the floor-pans and part areas of the boot.
The welding was carried out using 1mm galvanised steel plate so is not standard. Secure and solid but not as original.
The repaired underside was treated with Bilt and Hamber Electrox and their 2 pack epoxy mastic followed by their waxoil (twice as expensive as Finnegans). Link to product.
New fuel lines and brackets, starts but needs injector seals.
The interior and boot have had the same rust proof treatment but there are still some patches that need to be welded to the bulkhead from inside and around the sunroof,
All parts present new carpets and 2 sets of door cards. The wooden trim around the windows present but not below front screen.
MX-tex seats just need a clean, dash not damaged but could take a bit of a refurb.
So the car has all the heavy work done and can be seen without any paint. It needs a few patches, minimal filler and a prime followed by top coat. Then assembly with minor bits needing detailing / minor repairs.
I’ve tried to be as honest as I can and I have pics of most of the re-work and are priced to sell sight un-seen or one visit and take away with transporter and trailer.
Due to my work commitments, these need to be taken from 22nd to 29th of March.
I will not break. If they don’t sell they will go into containerised storage. Space is needed for cars needing less work so I can reduce my collection to a manageable number.
