1970 Volkswagen T2 Early Bay Westfalia Campervan For Sale

1970 Volkswagen T2 Early Bay Westfalia Tintop Campervan Quick update: Desmond now has a fresh MOT, new rear lenses, working rear side markers, new ball joints, steering coupling a some new gaskets. Basically got the pass but also made sure I had any advisories sorted at the same time. Receipts available. Also made a little video so you can have a good look around, see how solid he is, original and ready to go. Take a look: For sale is our 1970 Westy imported from San Jose California in June 2015, now registered in the UK with it’s own V5. We call him Desmond and have had many great weekends away, trips to shows and days at the beach with our dog. He may be nearly 50 but drives great, looks the part and has never let us down. He’s been very well looked after, wanted for nothing and maintained by aircooled specialist and all round VW enthusiast Ian Kent, of E’s Autos with any replacement parts being the best quality available. We’ve kept Desmond as original as possible but with a few add-ons like the lovely Aircooled Accessories steering wheel, spots and Sprintstars to make him ‘ours’ without losing the classic Westfalia look. We’ve also added a leisure battery plus some 12V and USB chargers for a little modern convenience. When we picked up Desmond we immediately treated him to a new interior, in the Westy style, with new birch panels throughout from Rackhams, who fitted them over new insulation. The original vinyl had lasted pretty well for over 40 years use but we decided to upgrade to some Newbury front seat covers with a local upholsterer replacing the rest in a matching colour. Some Madmatz flooring and repro Westfalia curtains from NLA Parts finishes the look. The cabinets were all really solid and just needed a clean. The Cali owner had fitted extra lights including a handy reading light on the head-knocker locker and we replaced the table and cab lights with original Hella fittings. The Louvre windows all work and I have 2 brand new mesh screens ready to be fitted by the new owner. We do have the original sink and fridge unit but took at out to make more room for us and the dog. It is of course included in sale and you'll also find plumbing already under the bed for an Eberspacher heater if you’re thinking of adding one of those too. On the outside and underneath, Desmond is as straight and rust free as you would expect for a van that has spent the last few decades cruising around in the Californian sun. Speaking of which, his window seals were a little crusty so they’ve been replaced all round too. He’s had some paintwork in the past and there are a few patches where can see the original Pearl White underneath. We decided against the respray as we wanted to have as honest and original van as possible. We think he wears his patina really well and is a blank canvas for the next owner. Desmond needed a light recommission upon arrival from the US which included a brake overhaul, some steering work, new shocks, lights and electrics fixed etc. His engine is the original 1500 single port and runs really well and has had a new coil, new carb, new oil cooler and new battery just this last week. All the ancillaries were replaced basically and we’ve completed over 5000 miles since without issue. But if you were after something with a little more power I have a turnkey 1776 built by GAC available which can included for an additional £3500. It’s currently in my beetle so you can see it running and take both out for a drive. Any excuse to go for a quick drive. The van is booked in for a pre-sale inspection at E's Autos first week of April and will be sold with 12 months MOT. Ian said he’ll gladly vouch for the van and will talk to anyone that’s interested so you don’t need to just take my word for it. If you’re looking for an early bay, a classic Westy from a dry state with nothing to do except drive, you won’t go wrong with this one. He's a brilliant van and know there's someone out there who will love him like we do. Thanks for looking.
