Series 1 Landrover 88" 1958 For Sale

For Sale

1958 88" Land Rover Series 1

Reluctant sale, and wanting this landrover to go to a good home where she will continue to be used, and much admired by all who see her.

This is one of the very last of the Series One swb 88" vehicles made, as it was during 1958 that production switched over to the Series 2 design.

I have used this with it's hardtop in place, which gives more security than those with a softop canvas fitted, though it is equally at home with either a tilt and sticks in place, or even go topless altogether, and really enjoy the wind in your hair (if you have any!). The current rear door configuration is of a top catflap door and drop-down tailgate. Very useful when carrying long items!

This has the 2Ltr petrol engine, which runs sweetly and pulls in all gears. The gearbox is quiet and complements the smooth engine.

Being the 88", it is comfortable for driving and not cramped as often remarked with the 86" and 80" models.

I have kept the patina paint finish she came with, which is more in keeping with this 61 year old lady, than a brand new respray would have been. That said, the finish is in very good condition indeed.

This it a truly genuine and original vehicle, all the body panels are straight, the chassis and bulkhead are solid and have never been welded. It even has the original leather gaters around the front and rear springs.

New clutch, full new exhaust system and recently serviced, 2 new cross ply tyres.

I have fitted electronic ignition for smoother running and better fuel economy but still have the original distributor should you want to change it back.

This is both tax and MOT exempt, though I do keep it well maintained so an MOT should not be an issue should you need one in the future.

A huge stack of service history to accompany this landy, proving the displayed mileage of 86000 is correct.

If you buying to restore this would be the easiest of restorations or just to drive and enjoy you will not find a better example than this.

A classic vehicle which continues to appreciate each year

The Land Rover was a utility vehicle devised in 1947 by the Wilks brothers for use on their farm. It was inspired by the wartime Jeep and the version most prized by aficionados is the Series I model (which accounted for the first 10 years of production). Thanks to its ingenious high/low ratio four-wheel drive system, the ...
