This absolutely first class Vauxhall Chevette HS has been subject of a major nut and bolt restoration and has covered just 1000 miles since. These very rare examples are now beginning to quickly rise in value and having had such a successful rallying career, these fabulous driving, iconic cars are becoming increasingly desirable and are in demand.
The Vauxhall comes with an impressive photographic record of the full rebuild and this shows the stripped down, bare shell dipped in order to remove all paint. All rust was cut out of the bodysell and new panels and new metal let in as necessary. Inner and outer sills, rear quarter panels, doors, bulk head, battery tray, floors, boot floor and inner wings were all either replaced or repaired and only completion of the body rebuild, the shell was then etched primed inside, outside and underneath prior to professionally re-painting in its correct colour.
The 2.3 litre engine was rebuilt with new standard liners and the correct 2.3 HS pistons that reportedly cost £1,000 alone. An oil cooler was fitted, the cylinder head rebuild with new valves, bronze valve stems, converted to unleaded and the car has also been treated to new electronic ignition with Lucas distributor, rebuilt/overhauled Twin 48 Dellotor carbs, new Club engine mounts, Kent cam pulleys and cam belt idler pulleys. The gearbox was stripped and treated to new bearings, main shaft, fourth and fifth gear syncromesh and the propshaft has been overhauled with new joints. Further work included an overhauled and re-cored radiator, twin cooling fans, overhauled rear axle, new half shaft bearings, uprated springs, new Billstein shocks, poly bushed throughout, new steering joints, rebuilt steering rack and the brakes fully overhauled to include uprated Willwood 4 pot callipers, new pads, shoes, overhauled servo, new copper brake pipes, braided stainless flexi pipes and new wheel rear wheel cylinders. The HS has also been treated to a check of all electrics and wiring plus new alternator and starter motor.
As result of the rebuild, our Vauxhall performs superbly and has arrived in exceptional mechanical condition. The car presents superbly with a first class bodyshell, beautiful paintwork and has had all new rubbers, trims and decals. The interior is exceptional and has had new carpets and headlining, all new sound proofing, all clocks rebuilt and the door cards and seats have been fully re-trimmed in NOS materials. The finish inside the car is top class and the HS is nicely finished off with refurbished wheels, new tyres and a superbly detailed engine bay. There is no doubt this is a car for the serious collector and the cost of a full nut and bolt restoration to this standard would likely cost in excess of our asking price. This is a special car, and most certainly an up and coming modern classic that can only continue to develop new interest and desirability.
