Registered 1963 but manufactured December 1960. Original pairing of frame and motor as dispatched from factory - Frame No B40 416 & Engine No B40 410 – I have a BSAOC dating letter to confirm. So this is a very early example of this machine with excellent originality. Not the original registration number as this was sold by a previous owner but I have all the DVLA paperwork to demonstrate the link back to the factory, together with some early licensing paperwork.
I have carried out a full restoration of the bike and have tried to maintain original parts where possible. Tank, original wheel rims and original fork oil seal holders have all been rechromed rather than replaced and all tinwork has been taken back to bare metal, repaired as required before being primed, painted and lacquered. Frame has been stripped back to original primer and repainted. All running gear has been stripped and rebuilt. Electrics are still on the original loom but every joint has been separated, cleaned and remade. The engine has been completely stripped and rebuilt – new big end roller bearing conversion and new main bearings. New bearings in gearbox. Barrel is showing very little wear and is not on any oversize. Speedo shows 12700 miles and looking at the inside of the engine I think this could be correct mileage!! I also have the original tyres which seem to confirm the mileage.
Over 280 photos detailing the strip and rebuild are available and invoices showing a total of £4400 spent on the bike. Need the cash to complete my BSA A10 project.
I think this is an outstanding example of this model and it is priced to sell.
