1970 Rover P6B Three Thousand Five - long MOT For Sale
For sale - Series 1 Three Thousand Five with long MOT
ULEZ exempt car - this car would pay for itself within a year for a Londoner who is after a cheap reliable car that is easy to park.
Two tone white/blue (officially white with the DVLA) - originally tobacco leaf. A solid car but needs TLC to make it look presentable.
I've owned this car since Easter 2014, apart from 3 months in 2017 when I briefly swapped it for a Series 2 Rover 3500 before swapping back again.
It's done over 15000 miles since 2014,
According to the MOT history, the car has done 30000 miles since it was recommissioned in 2010.
There is surely someone who can take the car to the next level.
There's a fair bit of provenance – it used to belong to the editor of Practical Classics and has appeared in several issues of that magazine - I have one issue which I will pass to the new owner.
When the car arrived, it had awful panels blown over in P5 admiralty blue and with P5 wheels and badges to complete the look.
The original tobacco leaf colour is clearly visible if you open the doors.
It’s now got only slightly better panels but everything else has been greatly improved in the last 5 years.
The base unit. It has had the dreaded inner sills welded in September 2015. It's solid and worthy of the road.
Engine – not original to the car but an authentic 10.5:1 engine.
Major engine repairs done in the February 2015 – not quite a full rebuild but this is as a fine engine.

No drips, no ticks, no knocks, no misfires; silky smooth.
It has an uprated radiator supplied in August 2018 by Mark Gray.
New thermostat fitted August 2018.
It has retrofitted power steering but still has the classic coat hanger steering wheel.
It has retrofitted hazard lights.
Good brakes – fully overhauled – new callipers, new front discs fitted recently, pads all round in my ownership and supplied by Mark Gray.
Master cylinder renewed February 2019
Gearbox – BW35 – fine when warm, slow to shift when cold. ATF is the correct pink colour.
Predatory kickdown – something to do with the throttle linkage.
Panels mostly poor. Rubberwork almost non-existent.
Interior - I recoloured this myself 8 years ago but made only superficial efforts to repair the seats – the rear seats are fine – they’ve not seen much use since they were recoloured – front seats not so good – unusually the driver seat is better than the passenger seat.
Carpets just fine - bone dry.
The dashboard is good and all the instruments work.
The heater motor is a bit noisy but it works well enough.
Unusually for a P6 heater, it does a good job of clearing the windscreen.
Driveshafts renewed March 2019
£2500 or best offer
The car is available for inspection to serious buyers.
Please note that the car is in Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire - the garage's number is 01260226661
