The car was built at the SAAB plant in Finland in 1982 but was not registered until 1st July 1983. It has a comprehensive history. Including the supplying dealer (S V Milnes of Newark), seven Registered Owners are listed. It was in storage for many years. The mileage of 28,200 is documented and the car comes with a very comprehensive history file including receipts for all the modifications, an original handbook etc.
The equipment includes twin Weber 40mm carburettors; rally specification “Tangen” unleaded cylinder head & camshaft; rally exhaust; electronic ignition; EMS “Soccer ball” alloy wheels; Cibié Oscar spotlights; Moto-Lita steering wheel; Kenwood CD player with iPod connectivity; engine & cabin pre-heaters; waterless coolant.
The car is in original condition inside and out as it left the factory apart from the items listed above. The body is solid and corrosion-free as a result of having been dry stored for 20 years. During the current ownership, the underside was treated again with Waxoyl and it has recently been fitted with a new (Turbo) clutch and replacement track-rod ends. The MoT runs to July 2019.
The car has been kept in a dehumidified and heated garage and usually only gets wet when it’s washed.
Reputed to be as fast as a 99 Turbo, this is a very special car. It was featured in Classic Car Weekly on 11/01/12 and a copy of the article comes with the car. The magazine was amazed at its concours condition and concluded that it was “a beautifully balanced car” which majored on both comfort and neat handling.
According to a SAAB Owners’ Club Registrar : “...it's probably the best SAAB 99 in the UK...” and a “... gem of a classic SAAB...”.
This is truly a collector’s piece and the asking price reflects that – try finding another one in this condition!
