The Audi S2 was named in homage to Audi’s fearsome 1980’s Group B rally weapon; the Audi quattro S1. Its story starts back in October 1983 when Audi formed quattro GmbH (renamed Audi Sport GmbH in 2016). Since 1980 Ur quattros were being hand built in Hall N2, quattro GmbH specialised in high performance components and customer customisations.
In 1990, Audi launched the Audi S2 replacing the legendary Ur quattro. Audi’s new performance car and all subsequent high-performance Audis including the R8 were to be built by quattro GmbH. The S2 was engineered for the quattro 4WD featuring a Torsen centre diff. Power was by the 2.2-litre 20V five-cylinder turbo engine first seen in the homologation SWB Audi Sport quattro and later used in last Ur quattros. Original power output was 217bhp, enough for 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and 150mph. For the 1993 model year the S2 was uprated to 230bhp, gained a 6 speed gearbox and could now crack 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and 155mph.
Originally offered in coupe form only, in 1993 the S2 Avant (5 door estate) was launched, pitching the S2 head-to-head against BMW’s M3. These later models were extensively re-engineered under the skin and formed the basis of 1994’s legendary Audi RS2 Avant – 311 bhp, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, 163mph.
Today’s Audi S and RS model bloodline started with one car; The S2.
Finished in unusual Alpine White with Blue ‘quattro’ jacquard satin sports seats and the carbon fibre dash & door inserts, my S2 Avant was first registered in April 1993 by VAG UK. (back then there wasn’t an Audi UK as such; Audis were still sold by Volkswagen Dealers. The first stand-alone Audi dealerships came the following year with the launch of the A8 and RS2. Then again, without the S2 Avant there wouldn’t be an RS2…). The significance of this? April 1993 was the U.K. launch of the S2 Avant and this car, with its unusual spec of both Electric Sunroof, Air conditioning, no roof rails and registered by the manufacturer appears to be one of those launch cars.
Along with the sunroof this car also has power front and rear window, door mirrors, Avus alloy wheels, A.B.S., power steering and ProconTen. This gives the advantage of seat belt pre-tensioners and airbags, but without the airbags! It also means you get the smaller leather wheel only found on early S2s and UR quattro 20Vs.
The service and MOT history are extensive, running from 1997 right through to today. It’s been very well cared for and drives excellently (always the expensive part of S2 ownership). The latest work totalling in excess of £6.500 includes:

· Replace 4 x Michelin 205/55/16 tyres

Bad points are the front wings. These are bolt on items and often rot around the front bumper mounts and wheel arch lips (as have these). They’re advertised on eBay as they’re common with the B4 Audi 80/Coupe. There are chips and marks as you’d expect with a 26-year-old car and the driver door rubber strip needs replacing (clips on, common to all B4 Audi 80s). You’ll also need two hub caps (missing from the driver side), it’s never worried me as you can only see one side at a time.
Overall this is a great S2 Avant, well maintained with an interesting history. I have tried to give my honest opinion and make sure every fault is listed, but I’d always recommend viewing. The car is advertised elsewhere so could be removed from sale at any time.
Only 4 previous owners since registered new in March 2000.
Excellent hood with new rear screen professionaly fitted November 2016 by CarHood Warehouse of London, sadly hood now needs some assistance to go down. The car also has a slow passenger side electric window.

1977 Audi 80 LHD
Audi 80 MK 1 face-lift. French car so it is left hand drive, good condition, seats all re-trimmed a couple of years ago, bit scruffy under the bonnet but nice to drive.
It is in France so there will be transport costs in addition to the asking price, it will need to be registered .....
