1984 Ducati MHR 900 ES - only 239 genuine miles from new For Sale

Ducati introduced the MHR or MIke Hailwood Replica in 1979 following Hailwood’s spectacular victory at the 1978 Isle of Man Formula One TT on a 900cc NCR Ducati. Originally destined to be a very limited edition of just 200 bikes the first generation were badged ‘900 Replica’ as only from 1981 was the model officially titled as the MHR. Some 300 bikes of this version were eventually built. The Mk2 was introduced in 1980 and was not a limited production, as such there were differences which were mainly cosmetic but intrinsically it was the same bike. The 1981 Mk3 was the first MHR to include side panels to hide the battery, the 1983 Mk4 model was introduced with an updated engine with electric start, the most significant change was the frame based on a Ducati 900 S2 rather than that of the original 900 SS. The final Mk5 version ran from 1984 to 1986 and was known as the ‘Mille’ (1000 ) as the engine capacity was increased to 973cc, it also marked the end of the bevel drive engine. The last of the line bikes were arguably the best as they were more user friendly, electric start, stronger engine and better brakes all made a truly great road bike, one that practically saved Ducati during a turbulent time. This late model electric start Mk4 was originally registered in the UK Jan. 1984, it was exported to a collector in Italy soon after where it remained until 2007. Having been returned to the UK it was re registered with its original number A357 LBJ, and sold by us to another collector in 2015 who also stored the bike in his collection. As such the bike has still only covered a genuine 239 miles from new. Now offered by us again it remains an original an unrestored example in good order throughout, the starter motor has just been rebuilt, the carbs overhauled and new inlet manifolds fitted.
