he MGA was announced at the Franfurt Motor Show in September of 1955. The car was a complete break from the past pre war type styling and was considered very ground breaking at he time. 101,081 examples were built at the Abingdon plant over a period of 7 years, the car being replaced by the MGB in 1963.The vast majority of the production being exported. Only 5869 cars were sold on the home market, the lowest percentage of any British car.
The very rare UK supplied 1600 Coupe version we offer here has a major Historic rallyin history having competed in several international events including the 2002 Monte Carlo Historique and the 2001 Rallye de Paris. The MG was retired from long distance rallying in 2006. The car was then treated to an expensive refurb which included an 1860cc fully balanced fast road engine with a stage 2 cylinder head, bigger valves, higher compression and lightened flywheel. To cope with the increased power the car was the fitted with a 5 speed gearbox, a must for long distance touring. The steering was rebuilt and at the same time the bodywark was improved with new sills, new wings along with a new front valance. The car was then repainted and Minilite-style wheels fitted. Since the refurb the has been used for European touring and regular short trips. The raft of paperwork in the history file contains copy invoices for mechanical and bodywork carried out on the car and a large number of old MOTs. The car comes with many Rally friendly extras including OMP rally seats, fourpoint harness and roll cage. It would be quite simple to bring the car up to FIA regulations. The MG is just calling out to be used in competitions having a proven and extensive rallying history.
