1983 Ford Escort XR3i. French import, left hand drive. UK registered with V5, MOT to 27th August 2019, one minor advisory of slight play on steering column top bush, (not noticeable when driving the car).
Solid bodyshell with no rust welding repairs. Presentable paintwork. Very good mechanically, very tidy interior, drives very well. Correct VIN plate matching the chassis number stamped in the floor. Much recent servicing and re-commissioning work done.
New oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, timing belt, spark plugs. Dist cap, rotor and leads are in good condition. Ignition timing and fuel mixture set. Gearbox oil changed. New thermostat fitted, fresh anti-freeze. New brake master cylinder fitted, new brake fluid flushed through. Brake discs, shoes and pads all in good condition. All steel brake pipes are original and in good condition. Shock absorbers appear to be recently fitted. Exhaust and fuel tank are in very good condition. The wheels are very tidy, tyres have plenty life left, there is a matching spare wheel but it does need a refurb and a tyre. Kilometres shown recorded are 9000, obviously not correct as the digits start again after 100,000 (62,000 miles). There is no history with the car so actual kms done are unknown.
When I bought the car, although running and driving it was down on power. It was discovered that someone had fitted a replacement fuel tank from a later EFI (electronic fuel injection) XR3i. The fuel pump used for EFI does not supply enough pressure for the Bosch K system on this car. A new correct fuel pump is now fitted, plumbed using Aeroquip fuel hose and connections and using the correct safety fuel pump relay. The car still retains the EFI tank. The fuel gauge is not working, I haven’t checked as to why.
The structure of the car is very good. No signs of any rust repairs. Battery tray area and the usual Escort rust areas are sound. The spare wheel well is still sound but has had flaking paint on the inside wire brushed and waxoyled. The tailgate lift struts are weak. The car has been re-sprayed at some time. Paintwork still shines, although has various light marks, scratches and a couple of small areas where the lacquer has lifted. (I’ve tried to show all of these in the photos).
My son and I have some classic cars between us. We bought this one to keep for a few years but circumstances have changed and we are loosing storage space. Some of the cars have to go.
