Rare and desirable four-light Sports Saloon version from Rover’s P2 range.
These elegant and sporting Rovers are hugely undervalued compared with their peers, Riley and Triumph for example, and are beautifully built motor cars.
This example shows a mere 69,100 miles on the odometer which could quite possibly be genuine as it has covered fewer than 7,000 miles since 1973, according to the MoT history with the car.
The black paintwork is in very good order and suits the car well. The mushroom leather interior is original and is in similarly good condition with just one minor tear in the rear seat squab.
The car has benefitted from much recent fettling which includes new tyres, kingpins, a stainless steel exhaust, reverse flushing of the radiator and the fuel tank has been thoroughly cleaned out. Approximately three thousand trouble free miles have been enjoyed since.
On the road the Rover performs extremely well and the famous Rover ‘Freewheel’ enables clutchless gearchanges to be made. The Girling rod brakes, arguably the best available in period, pull the car up smartly. She is a joy to drive.
All the instruments work correctly as do the semaphore indicators.
Being an early P2 the car features eighteen inch wire wheels, which look fabulous and fully opening bonnet sides which give better access to the mechanicals.
Rovers of this era were well equipped cars and this example has a working sunroof, opening windscreen, dual control wipers, sun visors and a full tool kit mounted conveniently under the dashboard on the passenger side.
A good sized history file accompanies the Rover containing a large number of detailed invoices, old MoT certificates and a buff log book dating from 1961.
A strikingly good looking car which is in excellent order and eligible for VSCC events.
We will be happy to take an interesting vehicle in part exchange.
