For sale is my superb 1987 BMW E24 635CSi with the sought-after manual Getrag 265 5 speed gearbox. That gearbox, coupled with the legendary M30 straight six engine producing 219hbhp, means this car can keep pace on the autobahn even today. Despite covering 151,000 miles, that’s around 5,000 miles per year on average, it certainly doesn’t feel over 30 years old.
Finished in bright Zinnoberrot red the paintwork is in good condition considering red does not usually age well. The sun has gotten to it over the years and it is a little flat, but this adds to the cars authenticity.
First registered on the 1st January 1987 at New Central Garage in Cobham, Surrey, the service history shows it was well used very early on, reaching 100,000 miles on a service at 11 years old in 1998. In the next 8 years it only gained an additional 30,000 miles. In 2014 it was starting to show its age and had several issues raised on the MOT, luckily though the next owner was very skilled and repaired a lot of rust in the door sills and floor. There is a link below to the work he carried out on the car. A few months later and it passed its MOT with no faults at all.
A few years later I purchased the car in early 2017 for an annual trip to Le Mans and have added another 8,000 miles in my ownership, over 1,000 of them on the Le Mans trip. Over the last year I’ve used the car very little since and it has been in storage over the past winter due to having other projects taking all my time.
I have carried out further metal work on the car, replacing rust on the arches and front wing and its now virtually rust free. Due to the way MOT’s changed last year it was raised that the rear sub-frame is corroded but not causing any issue. I have since ground back the surface rust and coated it with a rust inhibitor and painted it so it is now fully protected. Also a new battery has been fitted along with a battery isolator.
The wheels have been replaced with genuine 16” BMW BBS style 5 with Toyo Proxes T1 Sport 225/55 all round. It originally came with the metric TRX tyres; the spare wheel is still an original.
The Zinnoberrot red on the outside is paired with Pearl Beige Bison leather sports seats on the inside. The seats have been re-covered and show no wear. This car also features a factory sunroof along with electric windows.
The original owner had a number of optional extras fitted including a 3 spoke M Sport steering wheel, electric sunroof, sports seats, headlight washers, cruise control and heated door mirrors and door locks.
The 635CSi has been well maintained throughout its life and a has very well-documented service history. There are no less than 33 stamps in the service book with the majority from BMW main agents, plus a file full of invoices and MOT certificates.
Present is the full, original book pack with handbook, service log and other documents as well as the unused spare wheel and much of the original toolkit.
Started regularly, but used sparingly, the car runs and drives very nicely. The last MOT was in September 2018. This car deserves to be taken on more road trips or used as a daily driver, therefore, it's now the right time to offer the car for sale
