I purchased this car in November 2017 from a MBOC member specifically for a 50th birthday Road Trip in September 2018 with a couple of friends.
It completed the 3,000 mile journey to Croatia and back without fault, comfortably cruising at 80mph all day.
As you can see from the pictures the car is in great original condition. It has never been re-painted or welded and the huge maintenance history includes a bill for professionally rust proofing in 2000 which was undoubtable money well spent. W126's usually rust around rear wheel arches, at the front of the front wings and under the rear window (which is a £2k repair to be done right). This car is sound in all these areas. The chrome is spotless and paintwork virtually unmarked with no unsightly dents or scratches.
All the electric windows work as does the electric sunroof. The air con needs re gassing as does not blow cold.
Mechanically it is spot on, it starts on the button, runs sweetly and does not smoke or leak any fluids. The transmission shifts fine & sport/ economy settings work as they should.
It brakes straight with plenty of stopping power and power steering is surprisingly responsive.
They tyres are a matched set of Dunlop’s with plenty of tread and alloys (including spare) are virtually unmarked.
The interior is fantastic with unmarked cloth upholstery and perfect carpets and headlining.
I really would like to keep this car as 80s Mercs are beautifully built and appreciating in value, but with several classic cars and some domestic pressure I am reluctantly putting it on sale. I am slightly grumpy about this so won't entertain offers unless you have viewed the car and really would prefer if it was sold to an enthusiast who will use and preserve it.
If you are planning a classic car road trip and you want to get home again, buy it.
The car is currently sorned and stored indoors at a storage site so I may need a few days to tax and collect it for viewings.
The MOT expires in October.
