1969 Volvo Amazon 122s 2 Door coupe, first registered on 01 January 1970.
My brother in-law and I purchased the car together just over three years ago and in that time it has had plenty of work and some sensible upgrades to improve this classic.
The car is actually a later 131 Amazon badged as a 122s which was typical of the model. This means it benefits from the larger B20 2.0l engine, currently running twin SU carbs and a J-type overdrive. The previous owner had the engine fully stripped and rebuilt in 2008 by R.A Classics in Lopcombe. A fast road cam was fitted, the head was machined and ported and an aluminium radiator fitted. The work has created an extremely capable classic, an all round pleasant car to drive that can more than keep up in modern traffic.
Shortly after purchasing the car, it was subjected to 50 hours of welding work at Volvo specialist Templar & Wilde. This included inner and outer rear arch’s on both sides, sill work, roof gutter / A-pillar repairs and a half body respray (a total bill of almost £7000) Both front wings were also replaced back in 2011 by the previous owner (photos and documentation available) There's some small surface rust patches (corner of the drivers door for example) but the body is very solid - there's no hidden surprises.
The interior isn't as tidy as the exterior but is useable as it is. There's a tear on the passenger seat (see full set of photos), the dash pad could be better and the floor could use some new mats or carpet as required.
There is a huge history file of invoices available dating back to the late 70s + photographs of the restoration work that's been undertaken. All the cars history is online to read through here -

An overview of recent work however is as follows...
• Wheels refurbished, resprayed, aligned and new Michelin XZX tyres fitted by Surrey Autoworks June 2017 £750
• Custom made S/S exhaust from Infinity exhausts Bristol October 2017 £350
• Headlights and brake-lights upgraded to Halogen and LED April 2018
• Rolling road and Carbs tuned at Novatech in slough, May 2018
• New prop-shaft fitted, Surrey Autoworks June 2018 £250
The two-door coupe shape is getting rare now and this example looks great in dark green, especially with matching coloured wheels and tan interior. It's recently been to Spa in Belgium and back without skipping a beat and even returned a pretty respectable mpg using the overdrive! It would make an ideal basis for a full historic Rally Car or it can simply be used as a very quick and reliable everyday classic. The car is both MOT and tax exempt.
